When the parents of the most charming boy asked us to create a room that was all his own, we jumped right in! They wanted a room that revolved around super heroes and New York, and they wanted it to be colorful. We couldn’t wait to get started!
This modern super hero kids room is centered around a really cute wallpaper that looks like it was pulled out of the pages of a comic book. Since the wallpaper is black and white and graphic, we knew we had to throw in a lot of color to balance the headboard wall.
How cute are these super hero sheets? We knew they were the perfect touch. We found them at Pottery Barn Kids—love at first sight!
We chose fun orange and green pillows to complement the super hero sheets. Riley is a BIG fan of Captain America, so we had to include a little nod to his favorite character.
This yellow lamp from West Elm is one of our favorites to use in kids’ rooms. It doesn’t scream kid and can grow along with Riley well into his teen and college years. We found the alarm clock at our local Home Goods—it’s perfect!
Across the room, we have a cozy little reading nook with a gallery wall that includes some of the family’s most favorite places in New York, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Chrysler Building. We even found a fun vintage New York license plate to top it off. And the SPLAT pillow is the perfect addition to this modern super hero kids room.
And that brings us to the adjoining bathroom. We had a lot of fun in here! We wanted the bathroom to coordinate with the bedroom but have a feel that was all its own. We started by painting the existing vanity the same shade of green that we used in the thick stripe in Riley’s bedroom.
The gear mirror that we hung above the vanity is the perfect industrial touch for the bathroom. We love that it is made out of wood to give the mirror a bit of a cozier feel.
We found this really fun canvas print at one of our favorite retail spots—Target! We love how well it coordinates with the monogrammed towels (psst, they’re also from Target!).
Riley just loves his new rooms, and his parents couldn’t be happier. We see lots of fun memories being made in these spaces!
