When we were asked by our client to create an equestrian-inspired room, we were definitely up for the challenge. We love to get to know our littlest clients and see what types of things really make them happy. Reese is one of those girls who knows just what she likes—a girl after our own hearts! She loves horses and rides them almost all year round, and she had also mentioned that aqua was a must, so we took those points and ran with them when designing her room.
The horse mural is the focal wall and the main statement in the room. Since the mural is so neutral, we were able to easily add fun pops of colors into the space. We painted the other walls in the room her favorite aqua color, which also highlights the mural.
Across the room from the bed, we designed a desk area and reading nook. Reese loves to read and can easily get lost in a book. Her mom said a reading nook was a must because she knew her daughter would get so much use out of it.
We never tire of gallery walls, and this one is no exception. It’s a fun mix of curated items and a few custom J&J creations. We were lucky enough to find the horse picture at Homegoods, and we built our gallery around it. Including a couple of gold frames filled with photos of Reese and her friends was a fun way to personalize it. We also found the horse head and make it into a unicorn with a little ribbon and some hot glue. The roller skate is a new item we created, and it’s now available in our online shop. We hand cross stitched an “R” that we found with coordinating colored yarn to give it some dimension. Fun pops of color, frames and mixed wall decor are always a good idea!
We hope this equestrian-inspired tween room inspires you to take the reins on your own design project and make it what your little one truly loves!
