I used gloss paint to do the handprints, but after it is baked it is bubbly. What am I doing wrong? FYI.. I did not use a lot of paint on their hands.

  17. avatar Beth says:

Just a normal sized hole punch. The hole also shrinks in the oven, so you don’t want to start out too small.

Thanks so much for your time to respond. You saved me time. I will have to tweak the idea cause I don’t have that long for a Sunday School Project. Thank you again.
    Juanita

  19. avatar Krystle says:

Juanita I just did this today with the girls I nanny. Took one minute to make each hand print. Paint took about an hour to dry. I sat it in a sunny window to speed it up. Then I cut them out, baked them for 2 minutes. They were cooled off in about 5 minutes. Modge Podged them and that was dry in about an hour. Popped on the rings and was done. Super easy.

  20. avatar Juanita says:

How long does this project take start to finish. How long does it take paint to dry? How long does it take glossy modge podge to dry?

    Thanks

Can you please send me the directions on how to make these? Thanks!!! :D

  29. Jen – Coating the painted areas with modpodge after it shrinks (as suggested in the full tutorial) definitely helps to make the handprint water resistant… but I wouldn’t go tossing them in the tub. :)

  30. avatar Jen says:

is the paint permanent on there or is there a threat of it coming off if it gets wet?

  33. avatar Amy says:

I am seeing different sites/different methods for doing this. Does anyone know if paint/mod podge or ink pad/embossing powder works better?? Thanks.

  34. avatar Beth says:

If you look at the bottom of the post, there is a link to Grey House Harbor’s tutorial on how to make the keychain. Good luck with your project!

  35. avatar Misty says:

I am unable to find the link for the keychains. Please help!

  36. avatar Beth says:

Hi Lizz, You have to seal the paint after it dries. If you click through to Grey House Harbor’s tutorial, you’ll see that she recommends Modge Podge for that step.

  37. avatar Lizz says:

What kind of paint am I supposed to use I heve tried acrylic and the paint just dusts off kinda like chalk

  38. avatar Ferko says:

Excited! Thank you! We will definitely try it.

  39. Ferko – We did a version with a friend’s 10-mo-old and it turned out super cute! Hardest part is getting their wiggly fingers to be still long enough to get a good print. Might take a few tries, but you definitely can do it with a 1-yr-old!

  40. avatar Beth says:

I don’t think so. It will just make a smaller key chain. They shrink to one third their original size. Have fun!

  41. avatar Ferko says:

    Hello,
I was wondering if my 1year od’s hand would be too small for this craft?
