This Nursery Trend is Neutral and Natural and Oh-So-Hot

There have been a lot of nursery trends that have come along over the years, like damask wallpaper and chevron. Some of them are still going strong and others have fizzled out, but it’s always fun to see what’s new and fresh in the nursery design world.

It started slowly—a tribal rug here, a bow and arrow art print there. But before I knew it, the Southwestern nursery decor trend was blowing up. Designer nurseries are going more neutral and more natural, and they’re utilizing lots of tribal prints and a combination of textures.

Have you seen this nursery before? It’s been floating around Pinterest and Instagram for a while now because it’s just so beautiful. Heather Winn Bowman, a textile designer herself, designed her daughter’s nursery to be warm and cozy with lots of rich wood tones, vintage items and Aztec patterns, starting with the gorgeous tapestry wallpaper from Cavern Home.

This trend can go girly too! This nursery designed by Leah Carriger, owner of Beijos Events, shows off a pink Aztec patterned rug with some girly accents like that gold bird mobile and the pom pom throw pillow. The light, neutral walls help keep the space bright and cheery. The crib skirt also adds a touch of girly flair with the macrame detail at the bottom.

Talk about rustic charm! For her son’s nursery, photographer Allie Lindsey went bold with large scale cactus wallpaper from Anewall and lots of varying textures. Metallics can also be added in for a little glamour.

Here’s another great example of using cactus as nursery inspiration but in a more subtle manner. Photographer and stylist Sarah Sweeney chose a great faux cactus that grounds the space and added little touches like the cactus photograph above the crib that serve as a reminder of the beautiful desert landscape.

You don’t have to live in the southwest to take advantage of this trend! It can work in any environment since it’s so neutral, and it works perfectly for boys and girls alike. What do you think of this new and natural trend?
