An Adorable Take on Nursery Letter Art

We recently completed a cute little nursery for Brooke Mahan of What’s Up Moms?, and one of our favorite items in the nursery is the felt ball letter C that we made especially for her. We loved it so much that we wanted to create one for Jen’s little girl Julia. Her room has so much color and has a slight bohemian vibe to it, so we knew the felt ball letter over the crib would be the perfect finishing touch!

Materials: Wooden letter (ours is about 18″ tall), lots of felt balls (we bought about 150), hot glue gun and glue sticks

We found the perfect letter J at our local HomeGoods, but we’ve found letters at our local craft stores that would do the trick as well. Just make sure your letter has a hanger on the back so that you can hang it when you are finished.

A return trip to Petite Party Studio—an adorable shop owned by our pals Rebecca and Shannon—was a MUST for the perfect felt ball colors. The colors they offer are seriously drool-worthy! We chose the ones that coordinated with the rug in Julia’s room and added in a few extra colors for fun—it’s always more fun and interesting if everything isn’t so matchy-matchy. We threw all the felt balls into a big bowl and decided that rows of five would look best.

Next, we just grabbed handfuls of felt balls and glued them on the letter J in no particular order. And psst, it’s almost better if you don’t hand-select each one so that you can create a truly random pattern. Think effortless!

Towards the end, the pattern gets a little tricky, especially with the letter J. So we laid out the balls to see where they were all going to end up, and once we were happy with the look, we glued them down.

The result is even better than we anticipated! It’s a colorful and darling keepsake that can grow along with Julia well into her teen years!
