How to Throw the Purr-fect Kitten Party

The cat’s out of the bag. This kitten party is absolutely purr-fect! Everything from the yarn ball garland, to the M-E-O-W balloons, to the kitty cake will have guests pouncing on this sweet shindig. It’s an adorable theme for little girls and even for baby showers. The pink, mint and gold color palette blends together to create a most fabulous feline fete.

Kitten Party Decor

All parties start with an invitation! We got our inspiration for the party’s look and feel from this sweet and playful invite, featuring a kitten in a party hat and some spilled milk.

Kitten Party Invitation

We know party planning and decor can sometimes be overwhelming, so we suggest keeping things simple by choosing one location as the focal point that will make a big splash and bring your theme to life, like the dessert table. For this party, we used a combination of balloons, tissue tassel garlands, yarn ball garlands and foil letter balloons, all in the party’s color scheme. On the table, we added the coordinating paper goods, sweet treats and favor bags. It looks so charming all put together, and it’s really all the decor you need!

There are lots of fun and creative activities that fit with the kitten party theme. We love the idea of setting up a kitty face painting station as guests arrive. All you need is black eyeliner and this simple tutorial by ehowbeauty.

You could also purchase or make kitten ear headbands, tails and jingle bell necklaces or even have a kitten collar decorating station! Other activities could include a game of Pin the Tail on the Kitten, a mouse treasure hunt or an adopt-a-kitten station where guests can select a stuffed kitten to take home along with an adoption certificate. So many playful possibilities!

Make sure to include kitty-related foods on the menu, like tuna sandwiches, goldfish crackers in fish bowls and milk in glass bottles! And of course the menu isn’t complete without birthday dessert, like this kitty cake, kitty cookies and yarn ball-topped cupcakes! The party guests could even decorate the kitty cookies as an activity,

I am making the cake tonight for a 4 year old birthday girl's party. Didn't need a large cake so I used my 6" cake pans, made 3....I am planning to half one of the layers as it doesn't need to be 3 layers high, but 2 is just not quite high enough. I will use the extra 1/2 layer to cut triangle pieces for the ears. I used fondant to make the face pieces, would have really liked to use black licorice laces for the whiskers, but didn't have time to try and order from somewhere, and couldn't find it in any stores near me. Also a pink Necco wafer candy would be perfect for the nose. The eyes could easily be a brown M&M, just have the non "m" side facing out. The decorating tip I will be using is Wilton #21 to make the little star shapes all over the cake (I am going to put thin layer of frosting all over the cake first so I don't have to worry about seeing the cake (I made a chocolate cake) in between any of the stars. I am also going to use my frosting in between the layers, but you could use a filling of your choice. Hope this helps some of you who are wanting to try and make this cake yourself. Happy baking to you all.

Where did you get the yarn ball garlands from?

Hi Courtney, Pretty sure they made them. The key is to use styrofoam balls and wrap just outside layer with yarn so it's not too heavy.
