Design Reveal: Neutral and Calming Nursery with Pops of Fun

Kick off your shoes and pull up a chair, mamas and daddies-to-be, because this gender neutral nursery is irresistible! I, for one, am in awe of parents who choose to wait until baby’s arrival to find out whether the newest member of the family will be a boy or a girl—the suspense! The patience! The self-control! And—oh my gosh—what about the nursery?

Never fear, my friends, because, oh this nursery—THIS is how you do gender neutral. It has it all—chic furniture, a statement-making feature wall, pops of color, modern accents and some of the most unique animal-inspired decor I’ve ever seen. And after you stop daydreaming about what it would be like to rock your precious babe to sleep in this gorgeous space, you’ll have all the inspiration and motivation you need to design the perfect nursery for your own mystery baby-to-be.

Trish and Gordon are mom and dad to baby Harper, and this sweet family of three calls Jersey City, New Jersey, home. They didn’t know if they were going to have a boy or a girl, so instead, they used the architecture of their home as the starting point for the nursery design. “We have 14-foot ceilings and thought an accent wall would be fun! We were decorating for either a girl or boy and found this amazing safari animal wallpaper by Rifle Paper Co. From there, we picked pieces and colors that we enjoyed, using the wallpaper as inspiration,” says Trish.

Trish and Gordon wanted to create a calming and neutral nursery for their baby-to-be, but they also wanted the space to be fun. The vibrant turquoise glider, bright yellow side table and bold animal wall decor add the perfect pops of color and interest against the soft wall color and the neutral wallpaper. And that friendly little owl nightlight looks right at home next to the glider, doesn’t he?

Harper’s nursery is filled with storage and color and animals, oh my! The teal cart provides such a cheery pop of color and the perfect solution to contain all of those diapering and baby care necessities.

Trish and Gordon have created the beginnings of a super organized and quaint little reading nook that Harper is sure to adore. The bookcase provides the perfect amount of storage for books and toys, and the sweet baby bear print ties together all of the accent colors in the room perfectly. Plus, it’s the perfect representation of this new little family!

No nursery is complete without a mobile, and this quartet of animal friends is such an adorable addition to the space. I think it’s a safe bet that Harper’s a tiny bit smitten with her crib companions, no?

And while that orange zebra rug is the perfect accent for this safari-inspired nursery, when it’s time for tummy time, Trish and Gordon swap out the rug for cushy foam floor tiles. Surely Harper appreciates having a comfortable place to work on her motor skills just as much as mom and dad appreciate the chic look of this neutral playmat!
