Nothing says, “Let’s party!” like a bright, fun party hat! Since it’s summertime and watermelon-themed parties are so irresistibly fresh and fruity, we thought we’d share our tips for customizing these sweet DIY party hats featuring watermelon colors to get your celebration started off right!
Materials: party hats, hot glue gun, scissors, chunky yarn, 3/4″ satin ribbon, ric rac garland, pom pom garland
We purchased these watermelon party hat printables from A Delicate Gift on Etsy—the printables come in an assortment of patterns and colors, including kelly green dots, kelly green gingham, hot pink dots and hot pink gingham. Print as many hats as you need for your event, and be sure to save the template for future celebrations! You could also buy pink and green party hats or make your own.
Use your scissors to cut out the party hats. Then wrap them into cone shapes and use the hot glue gun to assemble each one.
Next, cut two 20″ pieces of satin ribbon and glue them on opposite sides of the interior of the hat (you’ll tie these ribbons under your little party guest’s chin to secure the hat to her head). Then hot glue the ric rac or pom pom garland around the exterior base of the hat.
The final step is to make the pom pom topper. Start by measuring eight feet of chunky yarn, and wrap it around a 2.5″ piece of cardboard. Next, gently slide the yarn off the cardboard and use another short piece of yarn to tie a knot around the middle of the yarn bunch. Then, take your scissors and cut the loops apart on each end. Finally, hot glue the finished pom pom to the top of the hat.
Have fun and get creative when you’re making these adorable hats that are perfect for your sweet summertime watermelon party!
