Decorating our Christmas tree evokes so many memories each year. Each ornament we hang on the tree reminds me of a certain memory—the year I was married, my daughter’s first ornament, the special glass butterfly for my daughter from Gram. The list goes on. My favorite ornaments are those that are personal. We have created a simple DIY to make your very own personalized clay ornaments, including baby’s first Christmas ornament.
Have you ever worked with air-dry clay? It is so easy! We added some sparkly gold paint and ribbon to add some pop! This project is so simple you can have the older kiddos help as well!
Supplies: air-dry clay, rolling pin, cutting board, drinking glass, cutting tool, chop stick, paint and brush, alphabet stamp set
1. Roll out air-dry clay on a cutting board. Roll to thickness of 1/4 inch.
2. I used a drinking glass to cut out the circle shape for an ornament. Press glass firmly into clay.
3. Use the cutting tool to get a clean circle shape.
4. Carefully lift clay from board. Smooth edges with your finger. Dip your finger in water and rub on edges if you need more help smoothing out.
5. Place on board. Use smaller end of chop stick to create hole for ribbon. Press firmly. Smooth with finger.
6. Use alphabet stamps to stamp child’s name or baby’s first Christmas or really anything you want. Press stamps gently. You do not want the stamp to go all the way through the clay. Let dry for at least 24 hours.
7. Tape off an area on the ornament to paint.
8. String the ornament with ribbon or yarn.
Happy holidays!
