My Kids’ Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies

One thing I really love about summer is getting the chance to bake with the kids. There is no rushing out the door to catch the school bus or homework to be completed, which makes midday baking easy and relaxing for everyone. Who doesn’t love a homemade chocolate chip cookie? When I found this recipe over on Marin Mama Cooks, I wanted to try it out.

I can honestly say these were a huge hit! We brought them over to a friend’s house for a BBQ, and there was not one left on the plate. Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside and the chunks of chocolate added just the right amount of sweetness. And, that extra touch of sea salt on top gives them a surprising little zing. Try these out, you will not be disappointed!

I made a few adaptations to the recipe, mostly because I didn’t have time to run out to the grocery store. I used light brown sugar instead of dark and Scharffen Berger’s bittersweet chocolate bar. The kids loved breaking it into chunks—for once pounding was encouraged! I also followed the tip to bake one sheet at a time since I agreed that one tray always comes out better than the other. The baking time took longer, but the result was perfect.
