Behind the Scenes with Newport Cottages

We love all things baby here at Project Nursery, but as you can probably guess, nurseries hold a special place in our hearts. So when we come across baby and children’s brands that are as passionate about providing quality products for our precious little babes as we are, you can be sure that we will be fans for life. We knew we had found something very special when we first laid eyes on Newport Cottages’ beautiful line of baby furniture, and today we’re giving you a behind the scenes look at the company’s journey to success.

Newport Cottages Turned Posts

The inspiration for Newport Cottages came to its founders, Pockets and Cristina Alvarez, when they were shopping for their first son’s nursery. They wanted nothing but the best for their first born, and they were surprised when they couldn’t find baby furniture that met their expectations for quality—they were already in the furniture business, after all. With their furniture-making expertise and desire to fill baby’s space with well-made pieces, they decided to make it themselves, and the brand was born.

As the Alvarez family grew, so did Newport Cottages. The company became known for the high quality and timeless design of its furniture. What started as a small project in their garage has expanded to include distribution to specialty and baby stores across the country, including the brand’s flagship store in Newport Beach, California.

Newport Cottages manufactures their furniture in Southern California using only select hardwoods. Pockets is the man behind the design and construction, and he takes great pride in ensuring that each piece is built with the best quality materials using old world techniques. The result? Newport Cottages heirloom pieces of furniture are as beautiful as they are built to stand the test of time.

While Pockets plays the roles of builder and businessman, Cristina is the resident designer with her passion for decor and love of color. Each piece of furniture is available in 23 different finishes, so you are guaranteed to not only fall in love with the design, but you can also customize it to fit your style. Just take a look at our very own Kristin’s son Blake’s nursery—the Devon crib in Bahama Blue is pure nursery perfection!

In addition to their passion for building beautiful baby furniture, Pockets and Cristina love helping their customers to create the nurseries of their dreams. And we think that’s the perfect combination.
