Toddler Transition: Big Boy Bed for Nate

My 2.5-year-old, Nate, is almost ready for his big boy bed. Although I’m in no rush to put my crib days behind me, I am having so much fun starting to plan for his big boy room (yeah a project!). So I thought it would be fun to put my thoughts out into cyberspace to share the beginning stages of the design process.

The challenge in Nate’s room is the carpet. It was my splurge in his nursery, and my logic tells me he will need to use this carpet until he is eighteen years old. And while I love it, it is cream and baby blue, which made creating a navy room more challenging. So in order to incorporate both blue tones, I chose John Robshaw Jr’s Bombay bedding, which incorporates both navy and pale blue perfectly. His big boy bed will be the Jacob, by Bellini, mixed with the Bellini Jessica Espresso double dresser (this is currently his changing table).

My accent color for the room will be orange—I wanted something bold and bright with just the right pop. I chose Quad Cubes by Way Basic for storage in between his two low windows—perfect for books and small toys. I was looking for something sophisticated yet funky for his night table, so I’m playing around with this orange nightstand. My favorite two items for the room so far are the vintage marquis light that will go on top of the cubes and the plastic wall-hanging fishbowl (an eBay find that I will use with fake, yes fake, fish!) that will go over his bed mixed with a collage of cool vintage prints that I have yet to discover.

So while I have fun planning and designing Nate’s ultimate big boy room, I will also be enjoying the last few months of having my baby boy in his perfect little crib. Have a great idea that you think would look cool in Nate’s room? Feel free to pass it along!

    Nate is really adorable!

I don’t think I have seen a navy blue room with orange accents and I can’t picture out how it would look. But I’m sure it would be a real nice room.

I think those quad cubes and the night stand would really be perfect for this room. Am not too keen on the fish bowl though, it looks like an accident that’s just waiting to happen.
