The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is an all-time classic children’s book that I simply adore! My boys love this book, and I knew it was the perfect theme for Blake’s 2nd birthday party. While researching ideas for the party, I found this photo on the Pottery Barn Kids website, which became my inspiration for the theme. They even have coordinating caterpillar bedding—adorable!
For every party, I start by designing the invite.
Once an invite is designed, the rest of the printable collection is made to coordinate. Themed treats and sweets line the dessert table, and a caterpillar made from tissue fans atop a playful polkadot fabric sets the backdrop.
Here is a closer look at some of the details.
Do you have a fun and fabulous party you want to share? Upload it to our gallery; we’d LOVE to see it!!

Hi what are the dimensions of the backdrop ? Did you wrap the fabric on a frame ?
Beautiful backdrop !
Thanks
Definitely believe that which you said. Your favorite justification seemed to be on the net the
easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you,
I certainly get irked while people consider worries that they plainly do
not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as defined out
the whole thing without having side effect , people
can take a signal. Will likely be back to get
more. Thanks

I would also love to know how you made the Brownie pops! I keep trying and failing making cake balls stick inside a cone! Ugh. THX.
Love the theme! Found this while looking for ideas for my son’s first birthday party. Could you share with me where you got those glass apothecary jars to carry the candies? Great idea and execution. Thanks!
Hi, can you email me on how you made the brownie pops? Thanks!
[…] This is only going to make sense if you are as huge a fan of the book as we are: apples, pears, plums, strawberries, oranges, chocolate cake, ice cream cones, pickles, swiss cheese, salami, lolly pops, cherry pie, sausages, and watermelon, and that’s all I can remember off the top of my head, but check the book for more! See the middle link below for another AWESOME looking party! […]

Hi! I absolutely love this… Would you please email me and let me know what you design your invites with? I have been looking to purchase a new photo editing program but I’m also wanting something that will work great for my crafts as well. I want one that can do projects like this as well as bottle caps for hair bows and so forth. I also do some scrapbooking as well. I just love how professional looking your things all came out. They look so crisp and clean. Please let me know what program you used I would so appreciate it.
Thank you so very much for sharing your hard work and beautiful designs.
Darling party! Love the tissue fan caterpillar, the cookies with holes in them (genius!) and the gumballs.
I love the boyish colors you have used here and I fell in love with just about everything. I’d like to ask about the last picture though. Did you get this at a store somewhere? Or did you buy the plastic containers separately then put in the candy?
I did this theme for my son’s 2nd birthday. It is great for young kids because all the food in the book can be easily made and put out for kids and adults to eat. It also could work for a boy or girl. Great book and great theme!!
Nice party, Rebecca! A Very Hungry Caterpillar is indeed a great theme, and children can really relate with it because it’s a well-loved story book. I say it’s one of the most age-appropriate party themes there is.
Always love this theme! Love the pleated fans to create more abstract version of the caterpillar!
hugs! Kim @ Party Frosting!
This is absolutely awesome!
