Keeping it Neutral

Many parents like to wait to find out the sex of their baby. It is for those parents that I present this post on the art of creating a stylish nursery in a neutral palette. Gone are the days of yellow or green being your only options. There are so many fabulous tones you can choose to create a look that can be left as is or adapted to the sex of the baby once your bundle of joy arrives.

Here’s a sneak peak at a look we did for a recent photo shoot. We chose a totally tan and neutral palette with stark white furniture so the subdued fabrics would pop. A gorgeous linen from Schumacher on the bumper gave a more modern and tailored feel to the room, yet the crystal chandelier from Curry added a more feminine element.

Metallics are also a great way to create a neutral look. Keeping the bedding elegant yet unisex can be tricky, but I think these crib sets from Angel Song are perfect for a boy or girl. Notice how the pop of color in each shot makes it more gender specific.

Serena and Lily’s Wren, one of my favorite crib sets for a gender neutral room, uses the perfect pale blue and kicks of color to create a sweet set that I think is gorgeous for either sex.

What’s your favorite look for a unisex nursery?

Great for not reinforcing gender stereotypes, too! So cute.

We are having a Boy in December & already had a neutral theme in the guest bedroom that we are changing into the nursery. I had a cream colored crib in storage for either a girl or boy & since then have accumulated cream & white furniture as well. I hope it all goes together! our accent colors are red & navy but still mostly cream & white...I'm making my own mobile from a paint chip idea on pinterest to hopefully tie everything together!
