A Few Of My Favorite Things: Melisa Fluhr

The holidays are upon us and to get you in the spirit, we thought we’d share a little shopping inspiration from your friends at Project Nursery. Our team has rounded up the FIVE items they love, cherish, gift or simply can’t live without.

I am a procrastinator when it comes to the holidays. I’ll find myself speed shopping on Christmas Eve for the perfect gifts. It’s become sort of a tradition, probably passes down from my parents. So if your looking for more last minute recommendations, I am your girl!

#1. The HiLo Chair by Age Design. This is how every highchair should be made. I say that because, a) it’s modern and functional. The chair flips once your baby is grown and turns into a toddler chair. It’s like getting two for the price of one. b) It’s really easy to clean. I am a neat freak and can’t stand how a typical high chair has an overstuffed cushion, nooks and crevices where food can hide. c) My morning routine consists of dropping my son into the HiLo chair quickly without having to wrestle with the tray so I can make my other favorite thing – coffee! Made in Canada but can be found through US retailers such as MiniJake.

#2. miYim Plush Toys. So much focus is placed on the organic mattress and crib bedding but what about the plush toy your baby will hug, squeeze and call his or her own? Start ’em off right with Organic Charlotte Sleepytime and friends. The secret dying process is very cool as plants and minerals are used to create the unique colors miYim is known for. Makes for the perfect new baby gift!

#3. The ABC’s of NYC by Bubba & Boo Designs. After just returning from NYC, my heart still goes pitter patter with NY pride. So while my children get boo’s when they wear Yankee caps to preschool, no can deny their cute tees created by creative  photographer and mom Jennifer Van Santvoord.

#4. Satin Taupe Eye Shadow by MAC. Pam knew I would get a kick trying to channel the smokey eyes of Audrina Patridge. So she sent me this MUST WATCH make up how to link. I was hooked and then realized all the other things I should have done while watching a 10 min video. Since then, I’ve learned to use this eye shadow for a glam night out which no longer happens all that often or simply a dewy look – ideal for a morning mom on the go!

#5. The All-American Chinese Cookbook. Since we are talking about things we can’t live without, I have to share with you a personal favorite that’s near and dear to my heart. It’s my mom’s cooking. A couple years back I created an online cooking blog where we post favorite Chinese recipes my mother has created over the years. My family and I love Chinese food and if you do too, we hope you check us out. After many years in the restaurant business and a published cookbook under her belt, my mother Lucy is the greatest cook. All the recipes are healthful with my growing family in mind. Thanks Mom!

I really think that these top ten things should have their own section in the sidebar. They are not just great gifts for the holiday season but also for the whole year! What do you think ladies??? Melisa, I just love the two in one chair you have here :) Like you, I hate those fluffy cushions that make it a pain to pick up food!

Melisa! What a revelation! Not only are these gift ideas very grand and practical, I didn't know we shared a love for Chinese food. I've been spending the past hour just browsing through the recipes and wow, I just have an itch to cook them all, they all look yummy!
