Modern Travel-Inspired Nursery

My husband and I both love to travel. In fact, we met each other on a trip to Paris. So even though most of my pregnancy was during a global pandemic that halted all our trips, our greatest wish for our son is that he know the value of traveling to experience new cultures, meet new people, and gain new perspectives. The nursery we created for his arrival is inspired by that idea.
The recliner/rocker is my favorite spot to sit with our newborn baby boy, telling him stories and singing our favorite songs. I also love the huge dresser that stores absolutely everything — we don’t even have a closet in this room! We framed the vintage postcards of places we’ve been together that were used as table numbers at our wedding.

Modern Travel Nursery

I knew that I wanted a room that my son could grow with and that we wouldn’t need to redecorate in a couple of years. We started by picking out the paint colors, which was the hardest part, and my husband painted the room. (Go Hubby!) Next on the list was finding the perfect mobile and letters for the wall in the right accent colors. We decided not to hang a lot of things on the wall so I opted for two cube shelves to store toys and books. There is a blue and white patterned rug in the center of the room to pull everything together. I needed some practical use items such as the touch lamp, wooden side table and woven basket which became our finishing touches. I hope that our son loves it just as much as I do one day!

Wanderlust Themed Nursery

I knew I wanted a wanderlust themed nursery, but needed to find a way to make it feminine for my little girl as travel themes are often oriented to boys. The yellow and grey made for a perfectly soft base to work from, and a great neutral to add colour to and change easily with the addition of a pillow or crib sheet. I traveled a lot while pregnant and wanted to use photo’s I had taken along the way which is what inspired the feature photo wall. As she grew and traveled herself I would regularly update her travel wall photo’s with pictures of her in the new places. A great way to personalize a nursery and ensure it grows with your little one.
