Smith’s Rustic Modern Nursery

Our inspiration for this nursery began with our love for reclaimed wood. We started with a home made pallet wall stained in walnut and white washed to create a lighter feel. We then started designing the rest of the room around that. White furniture for a fresh clean look with pops of color here and there. The wall art we found was perfect as it showcased our favourite beaches in Hawaii. My husband chose the white moose head for the wall which I actually really liked as well. Our book wall was the perfect way to display all of the books we received as gifts and bring more color to the room.

Miller’s Rustic Farmhouse Nursery

We chose to do a farmhouse style nursery for our baby boy, although this nursery could be fit for a girl as well. We love wood walls and have pallet walls in other rooms so the shiplap was one of the first things we decided on. We love clean simple and rustic wood so this nursery ended up being exactly what I imagined and very affordable also. With basic patterns and reclaimed wood accents, we made this nursery a room we love spending time in!

Rustic Feminine Nursery

I wanted a rustic, earthy nursery with a dainty feminine touch. I strongly believe in words of affirmation, so I picked phrases and words I wanted my daughter to be surrounded by as she grew up and could embrace such as being brave, kind, silly, tough, and unique. My hope was that she could enjoy fun whimsical items like the firefly lantern lights, lace teepee, and crystal mobile but also a place of fun with colorful books & fluffy shag rug to play and crawl on. All these items help with sensory development. She loves the lights and is completely mesmerized by them each night at bedtime. She just stares intently at them until she doses off to sleep. These function on a single remote with 8 different speed/pattern setting, have a timer and dimer switch which makes it easy for us to use. We also love the rug. In the beginning  when my husband and I were both up in the middle of the night it was nice for there to be a soft comfy rug for one or both of us to lay on. The room ended up being inviting for all of us to be together as a family.

Rustic Bohemian Floral Nursery

The moment I knew I was expecting Rosie was unreal. I had a dream of a baby crying in a flower garden. I was surrounded by people but I was the only one that can hear the awful scream. I took off into the flower garden desperately trying to find this baby. As I got closer to the baby, I woke up before I could see the baby face. When I woke up I was drenched in sweat and my husband walked into the room and surprised me with roses (hint, her name). At that moment I knew I was expecting. After waiting for the gender reveal to confirm I was expecting a girl I decided to pull inspiration from my pregnancy to design Rosie’s nursery. I decided to keep the theme going with my outdoor maternity session so I can display them in Rosie’s nursery. When designing your nursery, pick a theme and go with your own ideas. This makes it easier to create something original and not get overwhelmed when you can’t find the same decor as someone else. A quick tip to make any room in your home feel complete is to add photographs. What better time to snap pictures while you’re expecting and don’t forget to display your newborn session too. Shop around your home and vintage boutiques to save money and repurpose something. You can use anything you find the way you choose. I found an old Ikea picture frame and used it to frame a deer head I purchased from Home Goods. My curtains are hanging on a wall rack. I found affordable tie top curtains from Amazon and used the hanging wall rack as a curtain rod. I couldn’t leave the antler hanging wall rack behind, it was just too perfect for Rosie’s Room. Jack’s Rustic Nursery

My vision for Jack’s nursery was something manly and rustic but a little bit preppy as well. I loved lime green and navy together so went with that and neutrals for my color palette. I designed the bedding and had it made at Storkland – there is also a navy and white houndstooth crib skirt with beautiful texture (not pictured here as this was taken after the crib was lowered). I finished off the room with a cowhide rug, an antler lamp and a deer head that daddy mounted on wood for the room. Mimi also made Jack the special quilt that is draped across the back of the glider.

Happy Camper Nursery by the DIY Playbook

Up until a few months ago, all things nursery were pretty foreign to us! We’ve seen lots of gorgeous baby spaces around the blogosphere, but beyond that, we were (and still are) a bit clueless.
But a few months ago when my sister recruited the DIY Playbook to help her prep her then office for the arrival of her little one in early July, we had no choice but to dive into all things baby (temporarily)!
We instantly started planning a space Katie, her husband, and their future baby would l-o-v-e. Of course we still have a TON to learn about baby decor, but we have learned one thing while planning this space — the world of babies and nurseries and products and research and reviews is a TAD overwhelming. Throw some pregnancy hormones into that mix, and we can imagine that designing a nursery can be a pretty daunting task for any expecting mother… especially with a DEADLINE looming in the distance (hello due date!).
Before baby, this space was a bit of a catch-all (we all have one of those rooms, right?). After Katie enlisted our help, the first thing we did was go visit the space (snapped a few pics) and sat down with her to chat about how her and her hubby envisioned the nursery. It was important for us to create a space that SHE and her hubby loved, not just a space that we dictated.
Here’s what she told us:
Katie’s Wishlist

Gender Neutral (they aren’t finding out the gender in advance, so the nursery needs to be ready for baby boy OR baby girl)
Colors flow with the rest of the house. She wants the space to be appropriate for a baby, but she doesn’t want it to scream “nursery” since this space is right off of their family room/kitchen.
Neutral Walls
Rustic
“Theme”: Outdoorsy-ish <— KT & her hubby love the outdoors, they are both very active, and love camping/traveling/exploring. I’m hesitant to give this space a specific theme, but the general outdoorsy word helps me identify what “vibes” she’s hoping to get in this space.
She liked this crib and wanted the design to work around it
Wood wall

It helped to get Katie’s insight before we started planning. Once she gave us that wishlist, we encouraged her to start a Pinterest board where she pinned ideas she really liked and we followed along to get a better idea of what she was visualizing. (<— It really helped, so much so that we added it as one of the first 5 steps in decorating a nursery post)
From there, the DIY Playbook got to work creating a space that Katie and her husband would be excited to bring their new happy camper home to!

Emerson’s Rustic Woodland Nursery

We intended to keep Emerson’s nursery “simple” with just a grey, navy, and white theme; however, my husband fell in love with the wood pallet wall idea on Pinterest and our design took more rustic approach–for the better I’d say! Lots of DIY, surfing Pinterest, and meshing of ideas later… We ended up with a Rustic Woodland theme mixing classic, contemporary, and rustic style for our little man’s nursery!

Gray, Navy and White Rustic Nursery

When my clients contacted me to help them with their first baby’s nursery, I had a pretty good idea of they look they were going to want. We recently completed the interiors throughout their new home and wanted the nursery to be cohesive with the soft grey color palette already in place.
As soon as we knew the baby was going to be boy, we began to pull all of the design elements on the wish list. A grey, navy and white color palette would be the foundation to bring in the rustic yet tailored elements for a little boy. The wood plank wallpaper was the first element that we installed on the crib accent wall. A classic white crib, dresser and resin antler began to pull the space together and keep the overall feel soft and allowing for the layered color with books, art and accessories. A sweet little bird pattern for pillows, custom cotton bolls canvas art (Dad’s family runs a farming company in Arkansas) and accessories on the shelf brought in a a bit of metallic and soft green to complete the look.
We like to call it “Baby’s First Bachelor Pad” and sweet little John Henry is already sleeping in his crib at night! The room feels cozy, yet pulled together and is going to be the perfect little nursery for him to grow into.

Rustic Chic Woodland Nursery

My husband and I built our very own house last year! It was probably one of the most stressful times in our lives but it was so totally worth it as we are now living in our dream home. We moved in on our third wedding anniversary, November 3, 2015. Just five short days into living here we found out we were expecting our first baby! I guess the new house bought us a little luck. I am a bit of what my husband likes to call an “impatient perfectionist”, which basically means the house was decorated top to bottom within a week of living in it. Great for aesthetics, terrible for our bank account! Anyway, once the house was pretty much done I turned my attention to the nursery. I knew exactly which room would be home to our newest addition – the smaller guest room in the front of the house with large windows overlooking the front yard and beautiful lighting. I have to tell you, as much as I absolutely love decorating and design, the nursery really through me for a loop for awhile! Being a first time mom the line between pretty and practical can get a bit blurred. I knew I didn’t want a very traditional nursery, this should be a space that I would enjoy being in often as well as a cozy, warm space that would grow with baby. I also knew I would really have to be a bit thrifty with my finds since we had just finished building and decorating an entire house! As soon as we found out it was a boy my eyes immediately took to pinterest and of course project nursery to get some “nursery inspo”. After much too many hours of clicking through what all looked to be the most perfectly styled nurseries and also in keeping with a theme we have throughout the house, I decided I wanted to go with a more rustic vibe. The woodland theme seems to be trending now so I came across a lot of ideas and decided to incorporate that as well. My first “woodland” purchase were the baby animal prints from James River Studios on Etsy. I just thought they were so sweet and not as cartoony as many I had seen. I found these cool rustic hanging picture frames at home goods and this was basically my inspiration for the room. At first I had thought of doing a very neutral color scheme, but little by little aqua starting working its way in – which is kind of ironic since aqua was my favorite color as a child! Now I am in love with the little pops of colors, from the tribal pillow and the woodland bedding to the hand painted L’s on the bookshelves, everything really tied together perfectly. It took awhile to figure out what to do on the wall behind the crib – I wanted to do some sort of feature wall but two sets of stencils later I ripped it down and enlisted the help of my very talented friend to paint something. I found a cool picture of a white birch tree mural and we went full steam ahead. I could not be happier with the way it came out! It is rustic and whimsy and so much more real looking than stencils! I love the room so much that I often find myself just sitting in the glider looking out the window. Can’t wait for the new tenant to move in in just a couple of short months!

Jackson’s Rustic Nursery

This is Jackson’s nursery. I get so excited when I get to put together a space for my little ones. I find it important for my boys to have something that no one else does; something unique. And for that reason, I make about 90% of the things in my son’s rooms. For Jackson’s nursery, I wanted something that was kind of rustic and vintage looking but still sweet for a baby. It is kind of a hodgepodge of ideas and patterns but I feel it works. It is mainly themed with vintage bicycles but has some ABC’s mixed in. I loved creating it and I hope you enjoy it too.
