Celestial Baby Nursery
My clients wanted a beautiful–yet unique–celestial themed nursery for their baby girl. Golds, blushes, and deep coral intertwined with heirloom pieces, yet an overall modern feel

My client definitely knew she wanted a nursery that was a little different but packed full of personality. She wanted the moon and stars to be the prevalent theme throughout and by implementing this modern eclectic vibe, complete with celestial wallpaper, Boho rug, neon lighting, velvet draperies, and rich gold accents, she got just that!
We painted the ceiling a navy blue, and the walls more of a teal color. We wanted a dark and cozy room. This was an office-turned bedroom, it has vaulted ceilings and wall was added to enclose the room.
Clean, bright, gender-neutral themed nursery.
My hubby and I are total space nerds and knew we wanted to do a space theme from the get go. We wanted something fun and funky for Preston’s room that we hadn’t seen before and that would still be cool to him as he got older, so we incorporated the bold colors and fun lines to create a truly unique room he could grow up and still love.
This room was designed for a little boy to update his nursery to his “big boy” room. The bead board wainscotting, convertible toddler bed and dresser were existing. My client wanted a “celestial” theme that was not too “themey”. This drove the design in that most (although not all) of the elements of the design were suggestive of the celestial theme, rather than literal. This is how I prefer to approach children’s room design because it allows the room the grow with the child. Who wants to completely redecorate every couple of years?!
The first time I read Nancy Tillman’s “On the Night You Were Born”, I was holding my three month old baby boy, Hudson. The lines in the book brought tears to my eyes because they were so special…so magical…just like my beautiful baby. When it came time to start planning his first birthday party, I knew I wanted something as sweet, unique, & as wonderful as he is. “On the Night You Were Born” became the perfect inspiration for his celebration. I have never seen a party inspired by this precious book so I had to do a lot of thinking to pull it together. I wanted all of the elements of the party to represent things that were special to Hudson & my family. We live in the south so Carolina style barbecue was the perfect menu. The dessert table consisted of the most gorgeous blue ombre cake I have ever seen. The baker perfectly matched the hues of the night sky in the book. Grandma made her homemade sugar cookies into “H’s” and “1’s”. I wanted the party favor to be a fun craft for young children that represented something about the night to perfectly tie into the theme. The guests & their parents loved the personalized bug catchers! The centerpieces were mason jars filled with moss grass and white & yellow balloons to keep the look rustic yet young & fun! There are elements from the book throughout such as the red cardinal, the polar bears, the night sky peeking in the window, & the stars.
Hudson’s nursery was designed in baby blue’s and white’s with stars and moons. The stars have a touch of silver in them.
A gender-neutral nursery with a sun, moon, and stars theme
I wanted to create a nursery that was cozy and girly, without being overly pink.
A friend of mine just finished this mural for our owl themed nursery! We are so excited to have it all done and ready for our little girl! It turned out great!
Jory loves both owls & moons so combining 2 of his fave things for his 2nd birthday theme seemed like a great idea.
D.I.Y. mania. It was important for me to create a unique environment for my son to grow and explore within. I compiled a bunch of my favorite whimsical things. A lot of natural materials; cotton, wool, and wood; interesting textures and bright colours. This room was a loving art project for me, designed to teach and inspire Aki throughout his early childhood. I tried to place small pictures/visual stimuli at many visual levels so that while he’s playing in his room, he has many things to discover (with his learning and exploration in mind). And I filled his book shelf with my favorite children’s books both old and new. Since almost every decoration was handmade and most of the large furniture was purchased from IKEA, the budget for this nursery was minimal and cost effective. Working with a small room was the greatest challenge, because it was difficult to keep the objects from taking over the space.
Twinkle Little Star is a neutral idea that can incorporate boy or girl features to make more personal. I started planning before I knew the baby’s sex and just added touches of pink once I found out she’s a girl.
This is our version of a gender neutral room! The iron full bed was my great, great grandmothers. The rocker was my aunt’s nursing rocker we refurbished. We found the moon, iron star and paper flowers in Cabo San Lucas on different trips. Kermit was a gift from my dad in high school because Kermit was my “boyfriend” when I was a baby. Everything else was pieced together from here and there!
