Baby Sister’s Nursery

This is our second girl’s nursery. We just moved to a bigger house so each girl could have their own room, but little sister’s room was all the furniture from her big sister, Charlotte’s, nursery. We are lucky enough to live near the west elm, pottery barn, and crate and barrel outlet stores in Lancaster, PA so all of the furniture from those stores were bought on sale at the outlets. I wanted this room to feel like it was a brand new room for the baby, so a lot of the decor is new. She has all new knobs on everything, a new mirror, and new arch decals for the wall. I tried to keep things simple and clean with this nursery.

Black & White Nursery with Colourful Accents

When my client first reached out to me, she was looking to bring a sense of style to her son’s nearly empty nursery. The room was spacious with high ceilings and she already had a number of great staple furniture pieces, like a walnut dresser, grey armchair, George Nelson inspired bubble light fixture and a white crib. However, the room was in dire need of a cohesive design to pull everything together.
I honed in on a mid-century modern direction and fell in love with this black dotted line wallpaper to ground the space. I wanted the design to feel edgy with high contrast elements, yet still soft and playful enough for a toddler to enjoy. So, alongside all of the monochromatic pieces, we mixed in some really special accessories in varying shades of blues and yellows — from rope baskets and foldable crates, to felt pennants, soft toys and dolls, these pieces all work together so beautifully to bring richness to the space.
For additional depth and texture, we integrated a jute rug, a hand-woven wool ottoman, a decorative lion head made of water hyacinth and beautiful striped linen bedding. The fluted side table plays on the linear pattern of the wallpaper, while the wide bookcase serves as the perfect spot for books and speciality toy collections. We even added a few acrylic book ledges above the armchair to create a purposeful reading nook for bedtime stories.
From bare to bold, this room is now bright, effortless and oh so cool!

A Bohemian Inspired Room – Tour this Inviting and Charming Bedroom

We said goodbye to the pink walls. We said goodbye to the tiny dressing table. And we said goodbye to all things that were making this space a little dysfunctional. Oh, how I wish I had a “before photo” so I could share it here. So, what do you say, are you ready to tour this bohemian inspired room?
We started designing this beautiful bedroom for #clientniece last Summer. Note to self, don’t start working on a new design project the same day the kids finish school. It’s just not a good idea. Taking on a new design project while handling the shop, the kids, and all the mimosas; calls for a bit of stalling. Do you know what I mean? But we got it done. And to make this project even more fun and unique, we did a lot of DIY projects while designing this room as well. Like the DIY bed cover tassel, the fun wall hooks, and the super cute shelving system.
My niece is turning thirteen next week. So the overall goal was to design a space that looked more like her now, while still keeping the overall aesthetic of the house. I wanted to design a room for her that felt fresh and welcoming. Using lots of white details, wood tones, a colorful, but not too colorful gallery wall, and bohemian-inspireded items, we feel like we definitely got the job done. And the best compliment comes from my niece’s friends, who now want Julia’s aunt to design their rooms too.
