National Park Shared Boys’ Room

A shared bedroom fit for two adventurous little boys!
I have been working on a little room refresh for our youngest two boys, Conway (3) and Stone (2). The inspiration for their room came from some vintage postcards we bought while on vacation and it has since evolved into a National Park/adventure themed room.
Their room cannot accommodate two twin beds without sacrificing on play space, so I opted for bunk beds! We love how the bunk beds have allowed the boys to have a nice, big area to play and run around. One of the biggest things I did before starting their room refresh was minimize toys. Toys accumulate so quickly around here! The boys have one toy storage cabinet with 9 small, felt bins that holds all of their toys and isn’t an eye sore for their room. If there is one thing I have learned with my boys’ rooms, it’s that less is more!
The star of the room is definitely the Hot Air Balloon wallpaper from Livette’s. Isn’t it darling?! I love the vintage feel it brings to the room and it plays along so well with the National Park theme. I chose to go with hot air balloons to always remind my boys to seek adventure, be brave and fearless and to always “fly” wherever the Lord leads them in life.

Parker + Jolie’s Big Girl Bunk Beds Room

Parker and Jolie’s room isn’t very big, but I guess when you have two of everything and something crammed on every wall space it would seem a little full. we’ve been talking about creating a room with space saving as the focus and finally pulled the trigger. building a nursery as a first time mom was much different than what I experienced with the two babies that followed the twins. I was on bed rest very early on in my pregnancy (24 weeks) and didnt really get to lay hands on and plan a nursery- a lot of things came from online shopping and sort of hoping everything would flow together once we got it in the room. I stuck to the same color scheme as I had originally envisioned in their nursery: lots of coral + mint green and turquoise + shades of purple and I added in grays + whites for their big girl update.  this allowed me to be able to reuse and update the decor and furniture we already had, saving money on those big purchases.  they absolutely love their new space and spend a lot of time in here playing dress up in front of that repurposed mirror and reading their books from their DIY bookshelves! not to mention how BIG they feel to sleep in their “big girl bunk beds”. I love this room! every time I walk by I catch myself slowing a bit just to admire it a little.

Beachy and Whimsical Surfboy Bedroom

I designed and decorated this room for my own “big boy” when I was pregnant with my second, and was looking for something that two little California beach boys could grow into and ultimately share.  I was very inspired by a photo of the bedding in the Serena and Lily catalog but put my own spin on it with black furniture, a rather random collection of surfer and beach art and photography, and a hand-painted surfboard.  The walls are bold green and there is an occasional hint of orange in the room.  Photos by Jackie Culmer Photography.

Lyla’s Hot Pink Room

When we moved into our house, my daughter’s room was deep purple on the top, and light lavender on the bottom with tons of flower decals and quotes on the walls.  There was also dated white carpet, which we have unfortunately not replaced.  So, we tried to make the best of it.
We started by boldly wallpapering one wall.  It is an intense pattern, so we just went with one wall.  Then we painted the walls the same color as the wallpaper background.  Then, we just filled in with mostly white furniture and bold accents on the bed with pillows.  It’s a bright room, and the lightness it has now is so cheery.  My daughter’s favorite thing?  Her desk!  A $49 find at IKEA.  It’s actually a bench, but we used it’s the perfect size for a 4 year old.

5 Holiday-Inspired Kids Rooms

Red and Green never looked so good together in your kids room! Sure, these are two color combinations that only come out once a year. I think it’s because red or really green colored nurseries and children’s rooms are hard to come by. It took a bit of digging but I uncovered some inspirational rooms in the popular holiday palette. If anything, I am now officially in the Christmas spirit!
