Chalkboard and Aqua Nursery
I was inspired by a small painted wooden elephant that was a gift to create a bright and fun nursery. I wanted to add a chalkboard wall that could grow with my son and can be changed with his interests.

When I started decorating my son’s nursery I didn’t have a theme. Instead I focused on artwork, textiles, colors and furniture that made me happy. Turns out that Arizona, the colors aqua, mustard, black and white really make me smile! The room is extra special because a lot of the decor was made by myself and my husband or was purchased from my hometown in Arizona.
The teepee was the first piece that I made. I knew that I wanted a special place for my toddler to play while I nursed his baby brother. The teepee was a tedious, but fun project and I love how it turned out! My toddler loves it as well. :) When I was looking for bedding, I couldn’t find anything that really matched the colors and style of the room, so I made my own! The fabric was all ordered from Spoonflower, an online custom-fabric store. When I was looking for shelves, I found a set online that I loved but they were so expensive. My husband enjoys wood working and built these cool shelves for the room. A lot of the Native American pieces were sent from my mom who lives in Arizona. They are all very special as they come from one of my favorite shops in my hometown called The Pickle Barrel. The sun and moon art, as well as the the felt garland was all ordered from Etsy shops. I was really drawn to clouds when I was designing the room and fell in love with the cloud nightlight and cloud mobile from Pottery Barn. The larger cloud mobile is from Target and hangs over the changing table. It keeps the baby entertained during those numerous diaper changes!
I love how the room is a collection of handmade and purchased items that really reflect my personal style. A little bit of Arizona, a little bit of modern black and white geometric shapes and a whole lot of love went into this beautiful space for our little boy!
I knew I wanted a coral/aqua/gold or coral/mint/gold nursery with a shabby chic/whimsical feel! I also knew I wanted to mix and match pieces… so walking into Babies R Us and picking an entire nursery collection was not for me. I found the 3-tier crib skirt first which was perfect because it was 3 different fabrics which fit right into my mix and match plan! Ironically only 2 tiers show with how the crib frame is, but that’s okay! My mom and I then built the nursery around that crib skirt!
It was a lot of fun just browsing stores and online shops looking for the perfect pieces for Baby Girl’s Nursery! It was a lot of trial and error… buying and returning… to make sure all the colors matched but the end product turned out better than I could have imagined so it was all worth it!

I designed this nursery for my daughter Emerson Charlotte. I have never been a fan of pink, so when I found out we were having a girl, I was determined to design a room for her that would be clean, modern, and a non-traditional shade of blue. I also wanted to incorporate a daybed so that we would still have a place for out-of-town guests. Later on, the daybed will be her big girl bed. I also love that the walls and furniture are neutral so they can grow with her and combine with other colors later on.
We took our time planning and organizing our first baby girl’s nursery. Luckily I knew that I wanted to incorporate aqua’s and blues with splashes of pink. Then I came across the Lovey Dovey crib bedding from Carousel Bedding and everything sort of came together naturally. A light, airy and girly space that is welcoming and cozy and whose elements could potentially grow with our little girl Chiara.
For our baby boy, I wanted something fun and light and whimsical, with lots of color. I love blues and greens, and I fell in love with the Riley Blake aqua chevron fabric on Etsy. Hours were spent on Pinterest and looking for the perfect everything, while keeping a slight budget in mind and spending money where it counted. Another challenge was the room – two walls of windows, doors on the other walls, and duct work creating difficult corners. Everything had to be measured exactly for this to work!
When I found out I was having a baby girl, I knew I wanted a fun nursery that wasn’t too girly. So after a lot of time spent on Pinterest, I went with aqua, coral and gray for the colors to give it a fun, modern vibe but still be girly and cute.
Fun, bright nursery with a girly twist. The room is pretty tiny though, with 2 windows so it was challenging getting everything to fit! It’s cozy but we like it.
Creating this room for our sweet baby boy truly was a labor of love! My main goal for the nursery was to create something that was bright and whimsical but not too “babyish”, that way he can grow into it.
We wanted a nursery that we all would all love. We wanted a calm, relaxing and fun place that reflected our style and personalities.
I wanted a bright and girly nursery for Nadia. I also knew I wanted something she wouldn’t grow out of too quickly. My top two choices were vibrant/ethnic and rustic/burlap/cream so I combined the two. My jumping off point was Dena Fishbein’s “Kumari Garden” line. I used bright colors, natural elements, and lots of yard sale and thrift finds. You can read more on my blog www.thetastefulllife.com.
Ellie’s nursery can be described as girly, sophisticated, fun, and colorful! I didn’t want to have a pink nursery per se, just pink accents. So I decided I wanted to paint the nursery a color that was a little different. I love the aqua and turquoise color family so when I stumbled upon on a shade lighter than the classic Tiffany Blue that wasn’t too bright in a small room I was hooked; and who doesn’t love some Tiffany blue in their life! :)
I wanted to create a whimsical nursery with fresh and bright colors. After deciding on a palette and theme, I started gathering materials and went for it!
This aqua and gray striped nursery with white furniture and vintage daybed is all set up for twins. Colorful throw pillows and bedding in turquoise, lime, white, and a little pink (for Ivy), some original artwork, a mini-chandelier, and nature inspired mobile bring this nursery to life. This turned into a group project where different members of our family were able to use their special talents whether it was carpentry, painting, sewing , or art and design.
One of our customers shared a photo with us of their baby girl’s nursery. We had the honor of creating the custom initial inlay rug for the room. All of our rugs are custom made in the USA. The initial in hand inlaid, not printed or painted. Customers get to choose the shape, size, colors, and options for their rug. Our motto is:It’s your rug…your way!
My husband and I wanted to give our baby a fun, colorful, (budget friendly) room, that spoke to both boy and girl, since we weren’t finding out the gender of our baby till he or she was born. Looking at the finished product that took us months to achieve, we happily succeeded. We hope our little Nicholas is as happy with the room as we are. :)
Ariella’s nursery is a soothing oasis of coral pink, pale aqua, and bright white, & combines many hand crafted items from artists across the country. The main focal wall stencil behind the crib is a uniquely Moroccan pattern, but when combined with other traditional and vintage shapes, it takes on a whole new style of its own. Custom painted vintage frames hung above the changing table create a second focal point of their own without competing with the main feature wall, and simple details pull the room together for a cohesive look.
We’re frequently asked by our clients to create a nursery with beach-inspired elements—we chalk it up to our sunny Southern California location. We recently designed this beach-themed boy’s nursery for a client in Orange County, CA, filled with unique and highly customized elements.

I wanted something bright, retro, comfortable and unique… not something that looked straight out of Babies ‘R’ Us. And I wanted it to be a room that the girls could grow into. Aside from the cribs, I can see everything else staying in the room for while… it’s not “babyish”.
I have more details about there things were purchased on my blog:
