Penelope’s Woodland Fairy Tale Nursery

Penelope’s nursery is calming and cozy in soft tones of grays and yellows, yet the woodland fairy tale elements make it an inspiring space that will encourage her to dream and use her imagination. A combination of new objects, like her gray suede rocker and white jenny lind crib, combine with old heirlooms and found objects, like her antique bird cage and yellow vanity, to create a timeless and comfortable feel.

{Vintage Poodle Birthday}

This lovely event is very special for this family as their eldest daughter was turning 10 years old and they wanted to celebrate in style.  The theme was an easy pick since Mom loves everything vintage and shabby chic.  The birthday girl loves dogs, specially french poodles, so we paired themes to please them both.  The tone of the party was set with pastel colors, vintage flower patterns, polka dots and with that I created all the labels, favor tags, banner and invitation.  The use of doilies and ribbon was carried throughout all the setup and details.
We were so lucky to have found a ceramic figure of a french poodle to tie in the dog theme to the shabby affair.  Other items we scattered around were faux pearl necklaces, fabric rose garlands and baby pictures of the birthday girl.
For dessert we served french macarons, cupcakes, donuts, brownies, strawberry parfaits, petit fours and key lime pies.  A stunning ombre ruffle cake by Jovanna Valentín was the show piece to complete the look.  For the sweet floral centerpieces, I used Geraldine roses, Gerberas and baby rosebuds and mason jars embellished with doilies and ribbon.

Peaches and Creme Nursery, Made with Love

I had many different ideas and possible themes for our baby’s nursery (just check out my Pinterest Boards and you will see for yourself!)  I DID know that I wanted to use peach and coral colours for a girl’s room though, so once we found out we were having a baby girl that is where we started.  From there I got a few inspirational pieces (such as the image of the little girl eating the peach and the pair of little ceramic baby shoes) and I collected items that we already had from my childhood and from around our house (such as the quilt, the cradle, the ballerina music box, my knit and stuffed animals friends etc.) and her room started taking shape. Once I started my various handmade and DIY projects  her peaches and creme, feminine antique nursery with birdy accents really started coming to life.  Most of the projects in this nursery are handmade DIY projects and lots of the furniture we got for free, or on Kijiji, and re-vamped them to freshen them up and make them fit with the nursery.  This was definitely a nursery on a budget, the retail value of the larger items in the room would have come to around $1600 but we only spent $200 on all of those items!! So hopefully this nursery is inspiring and an example that you can create a really cute nursery on a budget!

Grey and Tangerine Modern {Woodland Inspired} Nursery

My husband and I both love things with a modern look and a tiny twist of vintage. When I was pregnant, we had no idea what we wanted to do for the nursery, the only thing we knew for sure was that we didn’t want to go the “traditional baby blue” route. We knew we both loved grey as a neutral and then we ended up adding a few pops of tangerine for fun!

Bella’s Vintage Nursery

This nursery was designed and decorated by my husband, my mom, and I for our first daughter, Bella.  We envisioned a vintage feel with a soothing soft pastel color palette.  We also incorporated family heirlooms to give her room an even deeper meaning.  Since I was going to be staying home with my daughter, we knew we had to create a beautiful space on a limited budget.  To me, design is much easier when you have a large budget.  You have to really plan ahead and use every ounce of creativity when you are designing on a dime!
