O.T.T. Designer Rooms

Posted in Baby Nurseries, Play Rooms, Toddler Rooms by Little Apple Design LA

Over-The-Top big time and we mean it as a total compliment…

Gold never looked so glorious in baby’s room. Simply gorgeous and dreamy. Unfortunately, I don’t speak Spanish so I couldn’t tell you what this article from the super cool Decopeques site is telling us. But the picture is too lovely for words.

Looking for something a bit more kid-friendly? Step it up a notch and contact Kidtroplis creators of OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD! children’s rooms.

These photos are just the beginning. Now click their link and take a moment to “Ooh” and “Ahhh” at all of their design projects but don’t forget to come back to Project Nursery for more inspiring room designs!

Green Rooms In A Box Or Silver Platter?

Posted in Furniture, Paint, Recycle, Shelves, Toddler Rooms by Little Apple Design LA

I am totally impressed! Rather than hiring a designer, I can now stalk Jennae Petersen of Green Your Decor and I am likely to have my next room design served on a silver platter via the worldwide web. Her inspiration boards are sooo beautiful and she makes it so simple to buy. Best of all, it’s all green decor so you can feel good about some of her splurge item!

Recently, Jennae posted two children’s room within her “Green Rooms in a Box” design series to dream about. Check out her Green Girls Room for under $2500 and her Green Boys Room for under $5000.  We cannot wait to see what she does with a nursery!

HGTV’s Rate My Space

Posted in Technology, Toddler Rooms by Little Apple Design LA

So I think this post can be referred to as “Shameless Self-Promotion” but what I really want to promote is HGTV’s RATE MY SPACE.  The reality is, we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the site or the amazing show with Angelo Surmelis. This site started in part because I posted the nursery.

Long story short, I was recently blessed with a Master bedroom makeover compliments of Rate My Space ($18K not including labor..eek!). Our expectations were exceeded beyond imagination. (Click here if you feel like staying up at 1am or 3am to watch re-runs). The Pietown Productions team that provide this makeover were beyond amazing. I now worship Angelo. Sure he is uber-talented hence, his own show, but watching him in action and experiencing his work first hand…he’s actually beyond fabulous!

We genuinely love our “Hotel Chic” Master bedroom. It’s become a spring board for the renovation of every room in our house.

If you are looking for more nursery and children’s room inspiration visit HGTV.com’s Rate My Space. It offers thousands of rooms to view (and rate!) from people everywhere. Who knows?…Maybe you will get on the show too!

Get Inspired: Calm And Cool

Posted in Baby Nurseries, DIY, Wall Art by admin

Corporate Creative Director by day and Crafty Do-It-Yourselfer by night. SF gal Natalie Hansen has a knack for interior design. Just check out her blog http://www.steamedartichokestudio.blogspot.com/. Project Nursery would like to give Natalie kudos for recently being featured on one of our very favorite blogs, Design*Sponge which showcases her fabulous $12 DIY lamp revamp.

Our Project of the Week is Natalie’s cool, calm baby nursery, otherwise know as the “Lombard Street Project“. With a budget of $500, Natalie created a contemporary gender neutral baby nursery for her clients. Natalie painted the entire room a sea foam green (with low VOC) herself. She was inspired by IKEA for their amazing storage solutions and minimalistic style but also incorporated a personal touch with some crafty wall art.

“I painted small cherry blossom style branches in two corners and one right above the door. I also hand drew a hippo and a giraffe on some of my favorite paper patterns from Paper Source and glued these figures to the wall. (They come off easily and won’t leave a mark on the wall). “

Our favorite feature is the stuffed animal art. A 49 cent stuffed animal and $6 shadow box frame - IKEA of course! A brilliant, inexpensive idea for nurseries everywhere…Very cool Natalie!

Get Inspired: Boldly Colored and Environmentally Sensitive

Last week Oprah put families to the test and asked them give up everything they could live without in an effort to waste less. Yesterday afternoon, New Yorkers celebrated Earth Day in Central Park with music, games and fun for the whole family. So what are you doing to teach your kids to be “Green”? Like me, there’s probably a lot more you could be doing. Besides carrying the stylish Whole Foods “Better Bag” tote to and from the grocery store, I could start to think about those big ticket items, like furniture. What better place to influence your young by starting in their very own room?

And no, the furniture doesn’t have to be made of cardboard as featured in my previous recycling post. Save a tree or save one of these stunning eco-conscience nursery designs in your idea book by Storm Interiors, our featured Project of the Week.

Going green starts young these days and designers are taking notice. Los Angeles based, Storm Interiors cater to the eco-conscience in-crowd by providing top notch design services and custom furniture options. Here are just some of their pieces to satisfy your need for green:

Storm Re-Rugs™: These unique, recycled rugs are made from manufacturer’s un-used carpet remnants, utilizing durable but plush fabrications and designed with special motifs. Custom colors, sizes, and designs available.

The Rock N’ Wave™: Storm’s fully upholstered child and adult friendly rocker inspired from the Pantone rocker. This rocking chair is comfortable and unique. The interior is made from an environmentally friendly synthetic down and frame made from alder wood.

Hide N’ Seek Unit: A Storm Custom large storage unit featuring open shelves detailed with Asian lines with three large pot drawers below for hiding the not-so-pretty items or extra storage. Made from alder wood obtained from green resources certified by the FSC, and utilizing re-purposed vintage hardware.

And don’t forget to check out The Eco-Tottoman™ while your at it. Pricey, it just may be, but after all, it’s good for the environment, (right honey?).
