Zack’s Surf Shack

Description

Catch a wave in this bright and fun nursery! We brought the islands indoors- from the swaying palm trees, custom surf board vintage Hawaiian art and raffia border you'll feel like you're on a tropical vacation!

Design Inspiration

We got married in Maui a few years ago and wanted to use a tropical theme for our new baby's room.  We really wanted the room to feel calm and relaxing and give the feeling that you'd been whisked away to a tropical island.

Decorating Style

I'm big on organization- I love using bins to keep the clutter down.  The bins will be great for keeping Zack's toys organized but easy for him to access. I love using bright & bold colors & eye catching design that really bring you into a room.

Favorite Items

I love the surfboard hanging above the crib- I think it's a great focal point for the room.  I also love Kim McDonald art print. We originally saw her work while on Honeymoon in Kauai and fell in love with her art.  We have several of her paintings in our home and were excited to have a print in Zack's room as well. The palm trees and raffia border really bring the room together and create a really tropical feel.

Advice

My idea was to create a room that was unique and could be used for many years. I wanted a fun room that didn't seem to babyish but I also didn't want a room that was cold and didn't feel fun or kid friendly.

I found one item I really liked and used that to build on.  Sometimes I would buy something, put it up and see how it looked for a few days- if I didn't absolutely love it I tried something different. This project was all about trial & error until I felt everything was a perfect fit!

I had such a fun time putting the room together, enjoy!!

I saw a beach bathroom here once, this room would perfectly complement that! Great work!

I love this room, but I think you should have added or used a brighter color.  Nonetheless,  Zachary is lucky to have this room!
