Woodland Nursery

Description

A genderĀ neutral, woodland themed baby nursery.

Design Inspiration

I found these gorgeous photos on Etsy by This Year's Girl and I just had to have them. Everything else stemmed from them. As this design formed I knew I wanted it to be different and not very "babyish".

Decorating Style

We live in Portland, where it's woodsy and full of adventure and wildlife; our home mimics the landscape. I wanted something that went with the rest of our home decor too. I love making original art work from natural elements so that is a big part of our decorating style.

Project Details

I made the mobile from a tree branch and woodland animals I found at Michael's. The branch above the closet is from a tree fall. I found some of the other animals at The World Market and collected a bunch of plantĀ specimens while hiking or walking our dog. The black and white cards on the dresser are from Wee Gallery and I picked up some of the other natural elements from a local garden center, The Gardner's Choice.

Favorite Items

My favorite items include the bedding which my aunt made, I picked up the fabric and she created this gorgeous crib set and the white hand knitted blanket my late grandma made just for our little guy. My dad mounted one of his deer racks to add a little more masculinity. I also really like theĀ guardianĀ bear who sits right at the door.

Advice

Just collect stuff here and there as you find things. Don't just look in stores. Look outside in your yard, on your walks, in parks and garden shops. Have confidence and go for it.

I could see how the pictures could make the branches seem a little spooky. The photos don't really do the room justice, mostly cause I couldn't get decent light in that room. In person the room just feels outdoorsy not scary. Thanks for all your comments. CreativeCrumbs,

I love the interesting bits and pieces in this room, like the handmade wildlife mobile, the specimen collection, the moss rocks, and the book snail. I just think all the other branches hanging inside the room are an overkill and give it a scary feel.
