Vintage Truck Big Boy Room

Description

A vintage truck themed big boy room for a 2 year old.

Design Inspiration

My son absolutely loves trucks, buses, cars, etc. At first I was leaning towards more of a bus theme, but then I found bedding that I absolutely loved and that set the tone for the whole room.

Decorating Style

I would typically describe my design style as clean and minimal... clutter free! For this project, I wanted to stick with a vintage truck theme, but also make it a fun space for my little boy. (and staying within a tight budget was key!)

Project Details

Bed: Solid wood with matching toy chest. I found this gem on craigslist for just $75 for both pieces! They were already painted this wonderful blue color. Coincidentally, I wanted to paint this exact color, so finding this furniture saved me a lot of work!

Bedding: Pottery Barn Kids "Bryce" Collection. Luckily, I found this set on eBay for an absolute bargain. The seller included the the quilt, sham, sheets, and even truck hooks which I haven't hung just yet.

Cube Shelf: IKEA Expedit shelf.

Lamp: IKEA

Curtain: Target

Truck Picture above Shelf: DIY. I found a picture of a truck on Google, edited it to be a black and white background with a color truck, and then had it printed through Shutterfly for free!! I had a coupon for a free 16x20 print. I bought the frame on sale at AC Moore for about $10.

Canvas above Shelf- DIY: I found this canvas for sale online for $125, but decided I could make it myself for free. I had all the materials- canvas, acrylic paint, and a paint pen, so it was free! I love the quote "Be Brave, Strong, and Courageous. Seek Adventure and Truth."

Shadow Box: The box is from AC Moore and the onsie in it that says "No. 1" is from Baby Gap. I put it on my son when I found out I was pregnant with baby #2 and that's how we told my husband I was pregnant!

Route 66 Sign: TJ Maxx/Home Goods

Green Metal Vintage Car: TJ Maxx/Home Goods

License Plate: I love this plate. It is a real truck license plate from 1955. It's a Pennsylvania plate and my son was born in PA, there is a 2 (he is 2) and there is an S (his name is Sylas). Perfect! :) I found the plate on Etsy.

Red Truck Art: I found this on Etsy and the seller even added Sylas's name to the license plate!

Picture Frame with Picture and Art: I found the art image on Google and printed it at home. The picture on the left is Sylas and my husband.

Newspaper Article: I found this on Etsy and it's a real newspaper article featuring a truck from the 1950's.

Truck Artwork above Bed: These are from the same Etsy seller as the red truck on the collage wall. They are all original water color prints. I bought all 5 frames at AC Moore.

Stool: This was a gift we received when Sylas was born. It just happens to match his big boy room perfectly.

Truck Pillow on Toy Chest: TJ Maxx/Home Goods

Favorite Items

If I had to pick just one favorite item, I'd say it's the DIY canvas art work above the white shelf because I completely free handed it and it turned out exactly how I wanted it to.

Advice

Be patient. I found a lot of the bigger items (furniture and bedding) used online but in absolutely great condition for a fraction of the price they would have cost new.
