Unique and Modern Nursery

Description

Welcome to our baby girl's nursery! So excited to share it with all of you! Her nursery is in a modern style with very neutral tones and pops of color through books and toys. This nursery is quite transitional in that we have used pieces that can either grow with our baby girl or be used for a second child down the road should God will it.

Design Inspiration

Mainly we wanted the nursery to match the rest of our home and love for unique pieces, it took off from there.

Project Details

The Cloud Lamp

Almost went with a boring stereo in the nursery for her to enjoy music. After some online browsing I convinced my husband to help me DIY this cluster of three clouds for the center of her nursery. The lights can remain of one color of pulsate, fade etc from one color to the next. There is also a bulb inside that connects our devices via bluetooth. From our phone we can access any music for her. All of the lights contained inside are LED so they are stay cool to the touch and will not be a fire hazard.

The Tepee/campfire set

This bold yet whimsical tepee from the Land of Nod along with the campfire set was a must have for the nursery. It will be a great place to do reading and playing together, plus we just love camping so it tied in a little of us.

The Nursing Corner

We used this Eames replica rocker (Amazon), pouf (Marshalls) and side table (Craigslist) from another area of our home. The giraffe from Melissa and Doug (Amazon), though popular in nurseries had a special meaning to me because I had an oversized giraffe as a young girl. I thought it was something nice I could share with my daughter.

Ikea Shadow Boxes

Yes, in the Ikea shadow box above you have my baby shirt from the hospital from when I was born and my husband’s baby blanket from when he was a newborn. The second shadow box contains a picture painted by my little sister for a bold pop of color.

Elephant and Lion Cardboard, 3D

We wanted to include safari animals within the nursery, but not any that were too childish. These 3D, cardboard elephant and lion heads were the perfect solution and they were easy to put together. Purchased on Amazon, made by Cardboard Safari.

Map Over Crib

We knew we wanted to pass on the name over the crib from the get go. We wanted instead to convey a message to her that though she matters, she is part of a much bigger world. What better way than by incorporating a beautiful map. This map is the Mapster from Umbra and just fit in so perfectly! (Purchased on Amazon)

Floating Shelves

These Ikea shelves lend themselves perfectly as both space savers and a great way to display books that will add a pop of color. It also gave us room to use the floor space below to place ottomans that hide toys.
