We didn't know what sex our baby was going to be, but girl or boy we did know we wanted a colourful fun theme for a nursery. Starting with a favourite childhood book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and keeping it practical we painted a little, added some grass and some sun shine, and put in plain practical furniture.

Design Inspiration

Eric Carle's Very Hungry Caterpillar is bright, colourful and a great way to start learning, that's what we wanted to see in a nursery. Baby Blue and Powder Pink a overdone, it's time for greens and reds and yellows.

Decorating Style

Plain style with colourful elements to make a theme that's not overdone. Some hand painted murals, handmade curtains, and Ikea specials.

Project Details

Our theme was based on Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

We traced the pictures in the book, scaled them up, and transferred them to the wall before painting with a basic acryllic set

Dresser: IKEA

Washbag: Matalan

Changing Mat: John Lewis

Cot: Mamas and Papas

Curtains from this Material: IKEA

Knitted Caterpillar Outfit: Merry Go Round

Crocus Light: Etsy

Favorite Items

The butterfly mural is a favourite of Aoife at changing time, and it was definitely the most difficult part of the project.

We took our time planning and choosing, enjoyed browsing pinterest, made it a fun thing to do to prepare for baby; allow yourself plenty of time to plan as well.
