Sweet Silhouettes & Warm Beige

Description

If all went according to plan, new Mom Jiye gave birth to a baby girl this past weekend! We are so delighted that she took time to answer some of our questions just prior to the big day. Jiye’s modern style, softened by sweet silhouettes and warm beige makes for a super stylish nursery and beyond!

Design Inspiration

I was first inspired by the rooms I saw on high end nursery furniture bedding websites such as Dwell Studio and Oeuf. I was quickly discouraged when I found that many of those items were out of my price range. Later, I was so excited and inspired by the real nurseries I saw on blogs like Project Nursery and Ohdeedoh. The real nurseries helped me to see that I could achieve a modern look without having to spend an outrageous amount of money. I also loved seeing how real people mixed and matched different elements instead of getting one matchy-matchy set for every aspect of their room.

Decorating Style

My decorating style is contemporary but with a touch of whimsy and fun! For the nursery, I wanted a modern approach to go with the rest of our home but I didn’t want it to feel cold or sterile. I also didn’t want anything to look too “baby-ish” because I wanted her to be able to use the things in the room for a long time.

Project Details

I started out with a neutral tan paint color (Benjamin Moore AC-32 Pismo Dunes) that we already had in the room (previously an office/guestroom). I also already owned 2 prints by Ashley G and Drew on Etsy that had light green and tan colors. From there, I decided we would use green for the nursery. As we started purchasing green items, I was worried the room wouldn’t look girly enough so I added pops of fuschia as an accent color.

Crib and Dresser: Walmart, Bookshelf: Ikea (but we got it on craigslist for $40! what a steal!) Sofa Bed/Futon: Bo Concept, Chair: Eames Silhouette Prints: Sarah of Truly Smitten Crib Blanket + Pillow: Etsy – Ella Jean Gifts, Alphabet Poster: Etsy – Sycamore Street Press, Girl Prints: Etsy - Ashley G, Chandelier: Urban Outfitters

Favorite Items

My favorite items in the room are the silhouette prints custom designed by my friend, Sarah.  She is an amazing graphic designer! She made the silhouettes fuchsia to match my color theme and instead of leaving the background white, she added a green pattern. It looks just perfect in the nursery!

So refreshing to see a baby’s room free from cartoons and rainbow colors. I always prefer a sensible decor for babies. For example, I think it is better to use photographic prints of wild animals (ie, instead of cartoon ones). Or, of nature. The point is: instill the love of nature and wildlife in junior early.
