Swans, Lilies and butterflies

Description

Hand painted mural continuing the whole way around the room. The horizon created with the two different blue paints creates a feeling of space making the room feel bigger. Pale blue paint was chosen initially for its calming effect and the bright pink accents in the water lilies remind us this is a little girls room!

Design Inspiration

The swans in the field outside the house, pink accent was introduced with the pink lilies and the butterflies are all butterflies that can be found in the wild in that area of the Uk.

This was important as it will help creat a love of nature in the child when she recognises that all those beautiful creatures can be found outside!

Decorating Style

french chic, subtle with a modern edge!

Project Details

I bought a lot of second hand furniture from ebay and revamped it with a lick of paint!

Also the white antique style mirror was a cheap mirror from Wilkisons but with a few coats of paint looks a million dollars.

The real sheepskin rug wasn't cheap but agin it brought the outside in as sheep are in the fields outside the window and adds an element of luxury.

Favorite Items

My favourite item has got to be the feather tie backs on the curtains as they look like swans feathers an add a touch of luxury and texture to the room but in a subtle way!

Advice

As all the detail is in the wall mural I found it best not to introduce paterns into the room and stuck with textures instead.

All the curtains, cushions, rug and tie backs are patternless but have completely different textures.

thanks 12andcounting   !

It took 4 days,  enjoyed every second of it! Painting nature is my favourite thing to paint.

The rocking chair I bought on ebay for £12 and painted it white, looks a million dollars now right, just with a lick of paint!

I just have to salute you for this room.  Just how long did it take for you to finish the mural?  That is VERY lovely.  I love the ideas you have here, no patterns and all.   I also love how light the room looks.  BTW, where did you get that adorable rocking chair?

there is scientific research that supports pale blue paint as being physically calming for children : )
