Surf the World Nursery

Description

A surf the world nursery to fit our new baby, Fox.

Design Inspiration

I originally wanted a travel theme, but also needed to incorporate my husband's love of surfing so it turned into  "surf the world" as an ocean/travel theme - with pops of fox. I wanted something timeless that could grow up with my son and I wouldn't feel like I had to redecorate in a few years.

Decorating Style

My house is decorated pretty traditionally with warmer tones so I was looking forward to this project to be able to use more contemporary furniture, straight edges, and gray tones. I also LOVE gold but have used silver and bronze through much of the house to keep it neutral, so it was nice to have a lot of gold and brass in this room too.

Project Details

The rug was inspired by Project Nursery and is a great quality Surya rug that doesn't shed! The dresser and bookcase are both from IKEA, as well as the small shelf, dog hooks, and shelf the hooks are hung on. The wingback rocker is from Pottery Barn Kids and slipcovered thanks to Surefit. The storage ottoman was found at Target and the crib ordered from Babyletto. Each of the art prints as well as the throw pillow was found on Society6.com. There are also the fox backpack, curtains, and crib sheets.

Favorite Items

My favorite part of this room is my husband's old surf board. It's heyday was in San Diego but has also traveled to Australia and Nicaragua. It doesn't get much use in the middle of Texas but I hope one day will inspire our son to explore. I also love the giant brass "F" from a Wells Fargo sign that a friend, and sign maker, had in his shop.

Advice

My advice is use what you have and what you love and try to develop a theme and color scheme around that. I always pick the rug first and try to complement with everything else.
