Sunny Days Ahead

Design Inspiration

I've always been hesitant to use bold colors and patterns in my own wardrobe so having a baby was a fun excuse to branch out. I started with fabrics I loved and moved forward from there.

Decorating Style

Champagne taste on a beer budget! All the furniture in this room was either a hand-me-down or purchased in a thrift store so coordinating (or letting go of NOT coordinating) was the biggest challenge. From there it was all about using crafts to make the space fun and welcoming.

Project Details

Sewing Projects:

Roman shades - IKEA fabric and this site made it VERY easy.

Bumper and dust ruffle - Amy Butler fabric and a Simplicity pattern (It turns out that crib bumpers are actually quite challenging and unless you're super set on a certain fabric, just get one used and save yourself the time).

Crafts:

Framed "art": IKEA frames and scrapbook pages

Petit Collage: The rocket is my original design, others from Martha

Mobile: Yogurt lid, pipe cleaners, glitter puffs, 6 year old artist :)

Organization:

IKEA, IKEA, IKEA. Little IKEA drawer baskets, As-Is IKEA storage bench (this thing is SO well used now that Liam is a toddler and can pull out and put away his own toys. Bonus!), IKEA plastic storage boxes (under crib) for blankets, sheets, etc. IKEA shelf above diaper area.

Your little guy is so cute and adorable! It's great to know you used this nursery as a way for you to get creative and active while on "house arrest" during your pregnancy. And that it was also a way for you to get out of your comfortable colors and try out bold ones.
