Sammy’s Outer Space Birthday Party

Description

For Sammy's 4th birthday, we had an outer space themed party, complete with a solar system mobile that will be part of his big boy bedroom makeover.

Design Inspiration

We started with the Pottery Barn Kids Planet Mobile and built around that.

Decorating Style

I like clean and bright spaces with lots of great details.

Project Details

The planet mobile is from Pottery Barn Kids. http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/planet-mobile/?pkey=call-decor&
I made the cupcake stand out of black foam core and glitter tape. The cupcakes were topped with fluffy marshmallow frosting, butter cookies that were rolled and cut into two sizes of stars and then spray painted (with edible spray paint) gold and silver after they were baked, and sprinkled with tiny silver edible stars. The star balloons were from Zurchers. I purchased the Meri Meri plates and cups at Orson Gygi. We also purchased the star piñata at Zurchers but added a trap door and ribbons to make it into a pull-string piñata (much less dangerous for little kids!). The cardboard rocket ship is from Amazon (made by Alex Toys).

Favorite Items

While we normally would not purchase something as expensive as the planet mobile just for a birthday party decoration, it became the perfect centerpiece for the party, and it will be hung in Sammy's bedroom when we redecorate it, which is the project we are working on now!

Advice

Don't be afraid to DIY things. We couldn't find a lot of things that fit our theme, so we improvised and made what we could ourselves.
