Baby H’s Neutral Nursery with Pops of Color

Description

When I started to plan my baby girl's nursery, I was not sure where to begin or what I had pictured for her.  I knew I wanted a room with serene neutral walls with pops of color that could represent her vibrant personality.  After 9 gray paint samples on the wall (there really are 50 shades of gray), I finally chose the winner and got to painting still without a final image in my head of how it would all turn out. I decided on stripes for one wall because I had seen so many pictures of nurseries with stripes and just fell in love.  Two words: Frog Tape! It took one day to get those stripes perfected.  After that, I just slowly started buying pieces I loved centered around the bedding I picked out and it all came together with hints of coral, mint, and gold.

Design Inspiration

I tend to lean towards all things white and clean; however my husband demanded some color, and I am glad he did.  He doesn't share my love for neutrals.  After roaming tons of design sites and nursery pictures, I just decided to wing it and add my own touches of love throughout.  The gray wall color flows nicely with the rest of our home décor and the pops of pink were just perfect for our little girl.

Decorating Style

Like I said, I love all thing white and neutral.  My home is a mix of grays, beiges, and whites with a farmhouse style (or at least I try).  However, the nursery turned out more modern and contemporary than what I typically pick out, and I love it. At first I was concerned it was a little too modern but once I added the ruffle curtains, I was done; it was the perfect amount of frill.  I love neutral foundations which gives me the freedom to change out pillows, bedding, etc. to keep things fresh and changing with my growing girl.

Favorite Items

I love the mobile above the rocker.  It was so special that my mom made it after many youtube tutorials and circles of fabric were cut out and pinned perfectly in place.  I also love our Jenny Lind crib..  It's so classic and sweet.  I also really like the hints of black I added.  I feel like it makes the room pop!

Advice

When you see something you like, buy it! Even if you don't know exactly where it will go yet.  I learned that I made my favorite things fit one by one. Also, stick to what you like.  Of course, with baby H being my first girl, I wanted pink walls and pink everything, but I knew that overtime it would not fit my style.  I am so glad her room represents a little bit of me and a little bit of her since I took so much time trying to make it perfect for her.
