Penelope’s Nursery

Description

A girl's nursery to grow.

Design Inspiration

I knew I wanted a nursery that could grow with her into her toddler and little girl years. I fell in love with the mix of paisley, stripes, polka dots, and colors of the bedding and everything came together from there.

Decorating Style

I like a mix of traditional and modern elements. I love patterns, textures, and color. It's important to me that everything in the room not only looks good but has a purpose, too.

Project Details

The biggest project was painting the room. We literally painted every inch- from the base boards to the ceiling. And that white stripe was a bit harder than I thought it would be.

I took store bought items and personalized them: I painted the inside of the shadow boxes green, changed the drawer pulls on the dresser to glass knobs, painted a frame, used contact paper as framed art, painted the storage bins white and put felt on the bottoms, put hooks on wooden initials hung behind the door, and my dad made the curtains and pillow.

I got the bedding on Amazon.com;  the crib, dresser/hutch, rocking chair/ottoman, and feather trim lamp from J.C. Penney;  the rug from Ikea; and the rest of the accessories from Target & Hobby Lobby.

Favorite Items

I love the feather trimmed lamp, the green fuzzy rug, and the cheery bright colors.

Advice

Find something you love and build around it! Make sure you think about how you will use an item in the space. Don't be afraid to take chances, but make sure to edit your final product.

Pink and white with a touch of green, and contrary to what you might expect, it's neat bright and very livable.  This surely is a lovely nursery, and we have the same favorites: the rug, and the lamp.  But I love that glider and ottoman too.
