Add A Handmade Look With These Valentine Paper Hearts

Happy Valentine’s Day!   My name is Heather Nolting. I am an avid crafter, and love discovering creativity through DIY design projects.  I would love to share this Valentine inspired project with you.  I am a parent, Oncology RN, and blogger at a Touch of That. I am fond of both old and new traditions, and really felt inspired by the Froebel (also known as Danish or Scandinavian) Paper Hearts of the past for this project.   With a little time and craft paper you can make these lovely little heart tags for a Valentine Day treat bag.  Getting a handmade gift like this makes an impression, and lets the receiver know that they are cared about.  These hearts are cost effective as they only require paper in the color of your choice.

I have made a FREE downloadable template to make hearts like the one’s seen in the photo.  Simply cut the templates out in two contrasting construction paper colors of your choice, and weave them together.

If you have a CRICUT EXPLORE™, I have also supplied a free template, so that the machine can do all the cutting work.

Although we used this to adorn Valentine Day gift bags, they can also be used in other ways. It is not uncommon for others to use these during Christmas time, and hang them on Christmas trees..   Follow us on Instagram, and Facebook for more DIY inspiration. Happy Valentine’s Day to you! ~ Heather

Playful Playroom

This playroom is so much fun for everyone! When it comes to kids stuff and baby gear, it seems to somehow multiply overnight… it piles up and it’s easy to let it take over the house. I love my kids but I don’t always love the clutter of their stuff! I mean, I can’t be the only one, am I right? To keep all of their things under control, we’ve put together the ultimate playful playroom to keep everyone happy! I’m not the jealous type but I would have loved to have a room like this when I was growing up! This playroom is packed with:
• arts & crafts supplies
•books, books, and more books
•dress-up clothes and shoes
• kitchen and baby area for pretend play
• TV for movies and music
•storage for everything
•comfortable seating
This playroom helps us control the chaos and it is perfect for kids of multiple ages. My kids are 6 months, 2 years, and 4 years so I know they’ll be able to play together in this room and enjoy it for years to come!

Baby Boy Baseball Bedroom

When my husband and I found out we were expecting our very own sweet little World Series Baby after the Chicago Cubs won the World Series in 2016, we knew we had to connect the baby to baseball somehow. A few months later when we found out the baby was a boy, we decided to give him a baseball bedroom! We painted three rooms with pinstripes and the last wall with baseball stitches. The shelves we use for both storing and displaying things gives the room a rustic feel which I love because it’s so reminiscent of the history behind baseball. Taping the room and painting all of the stripes was tedious and time consuming but the end result was so worth it. The baby’s baseball bedroom really knocks it out of the park!

Boho Modern Bunnies

My goal was to create a nursery that combined traditional elegance with the bohemian/modern styles that I also love. I wanted to focus on a pale blue color to balance out the feminine elements of the space (i.e. the bow shades, floral wallpaper, etc.) The blush and gold accents were then layered in with the hardware, rug and the subtly pale pink ceiling. I wanted to make sure each wall and aspect of the room brought something unique and unexpected. Instead of the traditional glider/rocker, I went with a large and round swivel chair. The ladder is a creative take on the popular “blanket ladders” – instead mine will be used for swaddles. I also wanted to include decor that wasn’t too childish, so that the room is practical for years to come.

Elle’s Kate Spade-Inspired Nursery

Years ago, before I was pregnant, I came across a nursery on Pinterest that I fell in love with, and pinned to a hidden “Baby Girl Nursery” board, knowing that if I was lucky enough to have a little girl some day I would use that photo as inspiration. The room had a black & white striped focal wall with big paper flowers, and was full of dainty gold and pink accents. When I found out I was pregnant in early 2017, I got my wish of having a daughter, and that’s when I revisited the image I’d pinned on Pinterest all that time ago. My husband and I quickly got to work clearing out our guest room to make room for our baby girl, whom we decided to name Elisabeth “Elle” Rose. I knew I wanted the room to have that same modern, yet feminine feel that was conjured in the online image, and I spent almost my entire pregnancy collecting the perfect items for our daughter’s room. The end result was better than I could have dreamed – it was light, modern, feminine, and had lots of personal touches. My two favorite pieces are the custom wall art with the lyrics to Bob Dylan’s ‘Forever Young’ that hangs above the glider and the gold and glass geometric box that houses Elle’s hairbows, which was first used as the card box at our wedding. When our room was just about done, I pulled the image back up on Pinterest to compare the two, and wouldn’t you know, on a tiny little side table – that you had to zoom in on to see – was a gold “E.” More than ever I believe that the design of my Elle’s room was fate!
My advice for parents-to-be is the same I have for anyone designing a room from scratch – go slow, do your homework, and choose items that speak to you. We didn’t have a “theme” for Elle’s nurrsery, but instead, allowed it to evolve organically around a bold color palette and some stand-out items that can grow with her for years to come.

Eclectic Navy

I didn’t want to stick to a theme other than colors. I have traditional wainscoting that was in the room before converting to a nursery. I wanted to steer away from being too neutral and went with Hail Navy paint and a contrasting white open closet with gold Swiss cross decals. I added a contemporary crib, plush shag navy rug, preppy traditional chair, and fun eclectic decor in nautical (mirror, frame & sconce), rustic (baskets, old horseshoe & blinds), contemporary (light fixture, Swiss cross decals, shelf & growth chart), outdoorsy (faux moose heads, antler heart & animal garland), & trendy (morrocan pouf ottoman, letterboard & felt mobile) styles to round out the look.

Serene and Whimsical Nursery

Kinzie’s nursery filled with floral accents, unicorns, and playful items. Whimsical and serene. A great mix for a baby!
My favorite thing in this room is the unicorn wall decor from Target. I added star decals and a little headband which created a focal point for the room. The pink canopy with flowers and tons of pillows is great spot for our little ones to snuggle and read in.
We kept a lot of the nursery neutral with a few pops of color and pattern in the rug, sheets and decorative accents.

Gold & Giraffe Themed Nursery

As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I dreamt of some sort of a safari themed nursery. The very first thing I did purchase for the nursery were a couple of little giraffes, which turned into the entire theme!
When I started designing Taylor’s nursery in our new house, I wanted to a neutral grey paint color. I loved the purplish undertones of Benjamin Moore’s Sidewalk Gray that would complement the pink and gold accents beautifully. We already had picked out the white crib from Potterybarn and dresser from Land of Nod.
Since the room is so small with one window, bringing more light in was key. What better way to do that with a huge mirror?  I love how it reflects the window to maximize the natural light. With that said, blackout drapes were a must!  Imagine taking a very necessary midday nap in a sun filled room? Not going to happen.  The blackout drapes are from Potterybarn kids and I went with the white not only to keep the room light, but to coordinate with our existing furniture.
I created some easy DIY artwork with some gold leaf and butterflies that were leftover place cards from my wedding. So easy to do and they look beautifu! I also added gold circle decals to make the room a little more playful.

The World Traveler

Traveling is a passion of mine, and I hope to share that passion with my son someday. The National Geographic map on his wall was the building block and inspiration for the room, with its muted greys, beiges, and blues. I imagined bedtime being a learning experience… every night exploring a new country and diving into its culture. The white wrought iron crib and changing table by Bratt Decor added a vintage and traditional look, accented with crisp white linens. I repurposed a family bookshelf/desk by painting it white and giving it pops of color with the classic children’s books on display. The Restoration Hardware vintage airplane mobile tied it all together. My advice, when designing such an important room, is to use your heart. Find something you feel passionate about and build the room around it. Spread your wings, little boy.

Eloise’s Lavender Nursery

As soon as we found out we were having a girl, I knew I wanted her nursery to be lavender and gray with pops of eclectic colors and art. The first thing I found was this gorgeous Nuloom rug, and so I built the design plan from the rug up. It is such a peaceful and happy space filled with lots of natural light, original art, and reminders of iconic female leaders. #girlpower I want to teach my daughter that she can grow up to be anything she wants, so we incorporated that into the design of the nursery. It’s my favorite room in our house.

Brynn’s Nursery

I chose this project for my daughter Brynn who was born in November. When thinking of a design style for her room I wanted a feminine, soft but still baby like room. I chose the colours soft pink and gold originally. However, with the soft pink and gold I found the room was to pale so I decided to add some colour pop with a darker pink and I think it turned out great! I was on a small budget when decorating this room so I hit up alot of second hand stores and mommy buy and sell groups to find alot of the items and I also hand made alot of stuff on my own which really cut down on cost.
