Southwestern Chic Nursery

When we found out we were having a little girl, I had true tears of joy. My fiancé has a family full of boys, and I come from a family full of boys so this little girl is such a blessing! As excited as I am for a girl, I did not want the typical pink, girly nursery.  I wanted this nursery to be very special, after all this is her first space in our home. I wanted something relaxing, tranquil, with excellent energy. I wanted this to be a space for her to grow, and mom and dad to relax.  I wanted to incorporate both my fiancé and my style, as well as make it nursery appropriate.  I spent a lot of time doing research on budget friendly furniture and decorations.  I incorporated pieces of furniture and rugs I already owned- timeless pieces you can switch up.  And who know with pregnancy came with a terrible case of indecisiveness. I made many trips to Home Goods, usually buying whatever I liked, and returning what I didn’t love.  Her room has a little piece of me and her daddy and I hope she loves it as much as we do.

Backyard Baby Shower

Welcome to our Backyard Baby Shower. This event was full of DIY details! We celebrated the new parents in their adorable backyard with family and friends. A warm February afternoon called for a Mom-osa bar, Sangria, finger sandwiches, fresh fruit, veggies, donuts and a delicious dessert table. We set up a photo booth area using a Polaroid camera and our take-home favors were adorable little succulents. It was a fantastic afternoon filled with love and excitement for the soon to be arrival of Baby Daphne.

Miami Inspired Toddler Bedroom

Being a designer, it is always my house I design last.  My house projects end up taking SOOOOO long and Zoey’s toddler bedroom was no exception.  BUT.  It was so worth the wait, the time, the decisions, the shopping and the DIY.
My vision for her big girl room was pretty clear in my head.  I decided that since we live in Miami and since I have a fiery and bold little girl, I wanted her room to represent both. Inspired by Wynwood Walls and the incredibly gorgeous nature in Miami, her bedroom is such a perfect representation of where we live, what we love and why taking risks pays off ;)
I am not much of a DIYer but I decided to tackle the paint design myself.  I knew I wanted bold colors, representing what we lucky South Floridians get to see every single day.  I also knew I wanted geometry.  Geometric patterns in rooms is all the rage so I figured I should jump on this design bandwagon.  Plus, it’s paint and SUPER easy to change if Zoey ever gets sick of it.  And by Zoey I mean me.
Another priority for me was to ensure I executed this project as cost neutral as possible.  So that meant selling her old baby furniture, reusing pieces that would work in the space and getting creative with space planning.  Happy to report I designed this space for just about $300 or so net, after selling and reusing (and hitting up IKEA and Target to offset my Land of Nod and Pottery Barn purchases!!).  While I like new things, my style for sure is new meets old and ensuring my house is filled with things that have meaning, tell a story and evoke an emotion.
Without further ado, I bring to you Zoey’s Miami inspired toddler bedroom!

Third Times a Charm

I’m a tried and true terrible shopper, so i usually pigeon-hole myself to two stores – Land of Nod and Pottery Barn. For this space I wanted to create something completely unique for our baby girl #3 – our last and final and done done done baby. No more. No, we’re not trying for a boy. Ha! So…I took pieces that we had in nursery #1 and #2, painted them and changed fixtures. I picked up a new slipcover for a chair I bought on Craig’s List and finally bought a rug for the space to brighten up / cover up the carpet. I ended up painting the feature wall just a simple white. A white I knew was going to look great because it’s on the ceiling and closet doors as well. I picked out some Urban Walls dots to make it a little more special and shopped on Etsy for some inexpensive, downloadable prints. I visited our local plant nursery to pick out a few plants and planters for the space…because I’ve finally learned how to keep a plant alive…and greenery to any room makes it more homey! And the custom Idaho print above the refinished dresser was gifted to us by a sweet friend and very talented artist! It even marks where our farm is!
Most everything in the room was simply reworked as opposed to purchased…since this is our third baby girl! The dresser and changing table were both from Pottery Barn and I didn’t want to mess them up and then be mad at myself for years to come. So…I paid a local gal and she did a wonderful job with the sanding, sanding, painting painting and installing the new pulls. I’m so glad we took the dresser from navy and silver to the sweetest, softest mint with gold accents.
I did paint the feature wall and install the Urban Wall dots! Pat on the back for that.
I really love the whole nursery. I think I love it because it’s the first house project I’ve taken on that truly feels finished to me. But…the crib wall. Love it. That’s my favorite part. The porthole mirror. The prints that flank it. The color combo. It’s all just so clean and peaceful. Since this is the third and last time this particular room has been redone as a nursery for a girl I really wanted to get it right. It’s amazing what can be accomplished with a little paint and a few new accessories!
Elli’s big sisters and I just love hanging out in that space…which is good, because we log lots of time int here!
When putting this room together I picked pieces that I knew would grow with the baby. Not only that, but I’m a firm believer in room-sharing. I shared with my sister and the memories I have are some of the best from my childhood. So…currently my 5 and 3 year old share and I have every intention of packing one more daughter into our large downstairs bedroom in a few years. What’s nice is both the nursery and that room have a similar feel, so a lot of the decor will easily incorporate when we make that transition. Now…wish us luck with baby girl #3…particularly my farmer husband. He’s so outnumbered it’s not even funny. Okay, it’s funny.

Rhaina’s Botantical Wonderland

This room belongs to our beautiful nine year old daughter, Rhiana. I wanted to create a relaxed, earthy bohemian feel for her that was sure to build an environment of wonderment and inquisition. I also wanted her room to have gender neutral feel but didn’t want to go all monochrome and lack lustre.
All elements are fresh, natural and earthy. I personally like to add patterns and textures to a room by using  gorgeous natural materials, linen cushions, wooden beads and fresh plants.  Especially fresh plants, it totally changes the dynamic of any room!
A big tip to some one who is on a budget but still wants to spice up their room is look up. That’s right, look up at those bare walls they are a canvas waiting to be used. I like to style walls, whether that be with feature wallpaper or a cluster of prints and decor.
I am inspired by a more natural and minimalist way of life.  I want to raise our children in the same back to nature approach that I was raised in.

Boho Baby Gender Neutral Nursery

Our gender neutral nursery is inspired by the vintage vibes of the seventies. I’d been watching Mad Men and was suddenly inspired to add a dash of floral to the bedding range I’d been creating.  It reflected the LA desert hills and the whole hippy lifestyle of Megan Draper.  However I didn’t want it to be overwhelmed with too much pattern and colour..so I guess its a minimalist styling inspired by the colours and patterns.
I felt the floral was quite unisex and fitting in with the casual style and solid colours used everywhere else.
It’s all very simple with cot and bassinet being vintage finds by Nicola of Concrete and Honey Styling who photographed and style it . I think simplicity is often underrated.
I think it reflects the style of simple bohemian nurseries that are becoming so popular and fit in easily with the rest of the home. It’s so versatile.  Most items are vintage or items we already had in our home but I think you could recreate the look quite easily from items on Etsy, to maintain the handmade feel, or from your local homewares store.

Floral Fantasy

A year ago I found out I was having a baby girl! My goal was to create a room that the baby could grow into with age. After getting some inspiration on Pinterest I fell in love with the floral theme. I already had the vetro crib (I bought it two years ago for my first son) which was a statement, and decided to go with white clean furniture and gold accents for a chic touch. I feel this nursery will give my daughter and I great and joyful moments for years to come.

Little Bunny Foo Foo

When I set out looking for inspiration for Lottie’s nursery, I was reminded of my own nursery filled with bunnies. There was something endearing about the traditional aspect of bunnies in a nursery, but I was hoping to give it a bright and fresh update! My goal was to create a calm and dreamy atmosphere using a monochromatic color scheme. I also knew I wanted to have a bit of whimsy in the room, so I looked for some playful details such as the heart mobile. I spent nine months curating and finding pieces that I loved. My best advice is to select pieces that make you smile when you look at them!
