British Puppies

The puppy sheets from Serena & Lily and the “British Made” vintage sign were the inspiration pieces for this nursery. We wanted to make sure the room was clean and classic, yet still had touches of vintage and modern. The wainscoting and green paint focal was the main source of color, along with the muted rug. The crib and dresser achieved the modern (mid-century) look which are both from the Babyletto Sprout line. We had a lot of empty space under the large windows so we created a DIY window seat/storage moment with Ikea furniture and custom doors!

Tatum James’ Nursery

The second I found out that I was going to have a baby girl I began envisioning a beautiful modern nursery for her. A local artist posted a piece she had made on Instagram and immediately I fell in love. Not only could I base her nursery off a gorgeous piece of art, but I could also do so while supporting local business.
My advice for any nesting mother is to make sure you fall absolutely in love with whatever it is that you find. I changed my mind several times about her room, and I would sit in her room to picture what I wanted over and over. Ultimately, I ended up falling in love with it, everything came together perfectly. I would tell any nesting mother to take their time with creating a safe place for their baby. It will turn out just as perfect as you imagined it would be with patience.

Clara’s Floral Bunny Nursery

When we moved into our new house I knew I had to design something I loved as much as Clara’s first nursery (check out “Clara’s Enchanted Garden Nursery” here on Project Nursery)! I wanted to do something a little different, but still make use of her blush pink accessories.
I decided to install wainscoting with wallpaper on top and keep the bunny theme. I originally planned to wallpaper the entire room which I still do think would look amazing, but to keep in budget I opted to wallpaper the crib wall only.
I am thrilled with how the room turned out and an so excited to finally share photos of the favourite room of our house! Thank you for looking!

Surfer Boy Playroom

When a repeat client comes to me and wants help turning a “toy/storage/catch all” room into an actual playroom, the answer of course is always yes!  I always start my projects with a design concept and after a bit of back and forth with the client, we aligned on “surfer boy” as our theme.
The space needed to be practical, comfortable and of course, playful for these sweet three boys.  I instantly new of a few products that would work but before I went into the details, I had to find my design moment.  Meaning, there is typically a point in the process – researching, dreaming, brainstorming – where I have an item, a color, a pattern or something that is the centerpiece for everything else in the room.
In this case, it was the wallpaper.  After a mishap with a previous wallpaper I had sourced, I decided to design my own, specific for this client, these boys and this room.  Waves, my first wallpaper collection, was birthed and will be available in  May!  And the best part is this wallpaper is customizable – it has the ability to be monogramed with 1 letter and here we have it with an “e” as all three boys’ names start with an e.  SWOON!
Once I had the wallpaper as my muse, the other pieces came naturally.  I love the Crate and Kids storage piece.  And FLOR carpet squares are always a hit for kids spaces because of how practical and durable they are (plus their designs are amazing).  The lounge-y cushions that act like a sofa are a perfect place for reading and, ahem, wrestling because come on, it’s a boys playroom.  Add some sharks, art and bookshelves and this room is complete!

A Neutral Big Boy Room

Just before my son turned four, we decided to upgrade his room from a nursery to a “big boy room.” This meant giving him a real bed(!) and adding some touches and accessories to elevate the space from a calming nursery to a room that really reflected his personality and interests. He LOVES animals so the first thing I did was to hang this jungle peel-and-stick wallpaper on the largest wall of his room. The wallpaper is adorable but what I love most about it is its neutral color scheme. Most of his room is blue, gray and cream, so this coordinated perfectly (and matched the paint color of his remaining walls, which is Benjamin Moore “Silver Chain.”
We have a kid-friendly sofa in the room that we use for our nightly story time, and which he can eventually use for sleepovers (it pulls out into a twin-size bed!)
I also replaced the original dhurrie rug from his nursery with this plush braided wool rug, which is so, so soft. We spend a lot of time up here doing puzzles, playing, and reading and this rug makes it so much cozier.
One of my favorite ways to decorate a kid’s room or playroom is to add acrylic wall shelves for books, artwork, and dolls. These shelves have always been in his room but we’ve since replaced the baby toys with big kid books that double as artwork for the wall. I regularly swap out the books based on season/holiday so we always have “new” ones to choose from.
I kept the remaining walls simple by adding a large hare print (no longer available, unfortunately), some fun accessories like a felt animal head and “Imagine” pennant, and DIY’d a Peter Pan quote to go over his bed.
One last project that we did together was to use our leftover wallpaper from the accent wall to wallpaper the inside of his closet, which is a fun little surprise every time you open the door.
Jacob loves his big boy room and we do too!

Closet Turned Nursery

When we purchased this home last summer we knew baby #4 was a possibility. We didn’t want to add on to make room for baby so we decided to turn our master bedroom closet into a nursery. Our master bedroom has a lot of wasted space so we built a new closet in the unused area. It wasn’t until demolition that we realized that the closet ( now nursery) was originally a room which made framing a breeze. We demoed the closet, removed the carpet, framed the door so we can access the room through the hallway, sealed the doorway going into the master bath and painted the ceiling and baseboards. Since this room is kind of small, I wanted to wallpaper the whole room to make the space pop! I wanted this to be budget friendly so I shopped on our local garage sale sites and found this wicker rocking chair and side table. I used fabric from one of my favorite designers, Caitlin Wilson and recovered the cushion and ottoman. The nursery is simple, traditional and perfect for our new addition.

Travel & Adventure Boy’s Nursery

My vision for this nursery was travel & adventure which I captured with a funky “hiding tigers” statement wall, exotic stuffed animals, a cowhide rug, a hot air balloon harlequin, and several other fun nods to travel. The project was initially inspired by the cowhide rug which I already owned and loved, so I knew I wanted to make the theme work around that. I began building upon the rug with the Moroccan leather pouf and other touches of leather included in the window seat. From there I had a blast choosing all the other accent pieces that tie the theme together!

Island Vibes Nursery

I wanted to create a space that had little reminders of our homes. I’m Australian and my husband is Pacific Islander and we live in France. I wanted it to be fresh and neutral for subsequent babies and had good foundations that can easily be updated in styling. I fell in love with the cot and took it from there. Originally was planning a more boho vibe but as it’s so modern changed directions. :)

Vintage Nursery Made to Grow

When my husband Seth and I bought this 150-year-old Victorian this past June, I knew this would be the perfect kids room. Our daughter Priscilla’s nursery is across the hall, but I always imagined turning this space into a second nursery once we got pregnant again. When we found out we were in expecting in October, I started dreaming of making this guest room into a sweet spot for baby brother. Eventually, we plan on moving both kids in here together. I love the vintage twin beds that came with the house and wanted to update with fresh bedding. A friend generously gifted me the antique dresser. The crib is almost identical to the one we have for Priscilla, and I love the look of white, iron cribs. Most of all, I have loved filling this room with pieces of family heirlooms and photographs. I framed a few images from our gender reveal and maternity session, my husband added a few of his favorite adventure books, and I have two samplers from each side of our family framed. The Jesus drawing was a gift from my dad. I am so inspired by vintage children’s book illustrations, textile textures, and the idea of melding old and new. Choosing a bright, pale green wall color was a bit of a leap, but I have fallen so in love with it. I love trends and seeing how others decorate, but I appreciate adding my own touches and truly shopping my home. We are so excited to welcome our son, and cannot wait for him to enjoy his space.

Baby G Nursery

The point of departure for this project came from the wallpaper we picked for the space. We wanted something that the little one can grow old with when the nursery eventually turns into their grown up bedroom. Instead of designing the bedroom with a lot of pink for the little girl, we decided to use pick as an accent colour instead to keep it neutral, yet with a hint of feminine touch overall along with the gold accents.

New floral wallpaper is from @coloraydecor . I love this beautiful floral theme. These wallpapers are very easy in application,we didn’t need any tools and we finished the wall in about 30min!

Casa Beni

As a busy mama of two it’s sometimes hard to find the time to focus on projects ! My tip is simplicity with big impact ! In my oldest sons room I decided to try a beautiful sponge wall ! Very inexpensive project , most people will probably have all they need right at home without having to leave #quarantine life ! The feature sponge wall made a big impact on a low budget ! Neutral colors will always be my go to for the base of the room because colors can be added and switched our with smaller decor elements ! My son Benicio loves his new room and we got a lot of kind compliments sharing the same feelings on my Instagram account @casa_interiordesigns! Thank you for your time and we would absolutely love to be featured by your wonderful social networks !

Playhouse Makeover

A silver lining to the current shelter in place situation is the beautiful weather we’ve experienced! I decided to take advantage of the sunshine and give the kids’ playhouse a makeover. The playhouse is called the Victorian Mansion Playhouse, but I purchased mine from a local company in Oklahoma called Patriot Play Sets (they travel outside the State.) The company also assembled the playhouse for a very reasonable price which I HIGHLY recommend!
In my opinion, the house is super cute exactly the way it comes, but since my indoor and outdoor colors are black & white, I decide to give it a paint job to match my  furniture.
I started with a basic cedar primer from Sherwin Williams. It took the whole gallon. After it dried, I chose SW Alabaster as the actual color.
The door and planters are SW Copen Blue (as you can see, it’s green, not blue) and a sample size was plenty.
My dad made the planters and shutters and the kids and I painted them.
This project took me a little longer than expected, but I’m loving the outcome. This has been one of the best investments for the kids and even though the makeover was time consuming, I’m so happy with the final product!

A Calm and Neutral Room for Two

A big difference I found from doing the twins’ room and from my singleton’s room was my own personal motivation. I had so many plans and couldn’t wait to start…but I also just couldn’t start. This pregnancy was a lot tougher than my first, and I also had much less free time than I did during those child free days before my son was born!
Because I was so tired and uncomfortable, this room has a lot less “personal” touches in terms of DIY projects. (Thank you, IKEA.) I am ok with this. I am still happy with how everything turned out and although it meant our budget was a little (a LOT) more than my first baby’s room (which was mostly thrifted or DIY’d), we spread things out and it was completely manageable.
I had been swooning after this rocker for a few months, and my husband surprised me with it for Christmas. What a guy. It  is was Ita huge splurge for sous but totally worth it for me. It is so comfortable and high enough in the back to rest your head, which was a must for me. It’s also very wide, and I can already envision snuggling in with my three little guys for storytime.
The sheep ottoman is kind of “whimsical” and not something I would normally gravitate towards, but I think it’s a cute touch for a baby’s room. It is also very sturdy and a decent size.
For cribs we went super simple with the IKEA SNIGLAR crib. At $99 each, the price was right (especially because we needed two) and they are also very suited to my personal style. I was initially worried about the quality and sturdiness, but the reviews were great and after we’d  put them together, they really are very solid. We hung the white LACK shelf (also from IKEA) on the wall above the crib, and for safety purposes, it is holding less than half the recommended weight in bric-a-brac and Matt went overkill with the anchors attaching it to the wall. It’s not going anywhere.
IKEA strikes again! We went with the KOPPANG dresser to use as our change table. This thing is a beast and has a ton of storage. It was fairly easy to assemble and it fits the space we have on this wall perfectly with enough room on either side for a laundry hamper and diaper genie.
One of my favorite things in the room is this watercolor rainbow elephant print from Society 6. It was one of the first things I picked out for the room, and I made all my other choices around it (which is why everything else is so neutral)! I am not crazy about color but I do love me a good rainbow in a nursery. I kept the cost down framing this guy by thrifting one for $30 from Value Village that I repainted a nice fresh white.
All of the other smaller decorative items are either from HomeGoods or Value Village. I love plants in a nursery (and any room, really) so I added a few to warm up the room, and last but not least, laid this super pretty/affordable rug from Wayfair.
I am so happy with the final result. Its bright, spacious, and calm which is exactly the vibe I was going for. We can’t wait to bring our new little guys home and for everyone to get settled in to our new “normal”.

Skyler’s Mermaid Nursery

My husband and I are both avid scuba divers so it only felt natural that we give our daughter, Skyler, an ocean themed nursery full of mermaids, smiling sea creatures, and the most adorable crab basket you’ve ever seen. I found a lot of her cute nursery decor on Etsy, like her mermaid mobile that hangs above her crib, her mermaid hair bow holder, and her personalized name cut from felt letters. My husband didn’t want the room too look “too pink”, so they pink curtains were as “pink” as I could go. I wanted the room to feel very bright and happy, like our little Skyler. Don’t be afraid of pops of color, like colorful curtains – sometimes that’s all the color you need to really liven up the space. Also always check Etsy for any grand idea you might have, because chances are someone on there has created your dream nursery decor item. I’m also a huge Amazon fan and found lots of fun items for the nursery on there, like her coral lamp and narwhal print crib sheets! I’m very happy with how our nursery turned out and I know Skyler is going to love the ocean like her parents do.

Little princess room

My daughter had a lovely white room. However, the this color was so dominant that it gave the effect of a cool place. We removed stickers, clean the wall and stick wallpaper. We decided to the self-adhesive one. This meant we didn’t have to prepare a room to work with glue. Sloping ceiling was a bit challenge but we’ve dealt with it.
Now it’s very cozy and romantic. The perfect wallpaper for every girl. It creates a beautiful accent in the room.
