Project Details

I am the owner of Gracie's Cottage where we specialize in repurposing and upcyling great old furniture!~So when we were designing this great room we did what we do best...RECREATE..First of all, although we were desinging a nursery (our 4th boy), we wanted to start with the color of paint on the wall. We didn't want to "label" the room "baby" colors, we knew the room would eventually be transitioned into a big boy room. So the paint color we choose for the wall is our own custom Light French Dove Grey...walls and ceiling...by painting all 1 color it gives a unified space only to be broken up by the crisp white wood work and detailing...oh, and it is ALOT easier on the "cut ins" (tee~hee~hee).  From there we went with what we had or could easily and inexpensively find!~The chest was a great old chest that we found, hand painted in no VOC paint and added cool vintage inspired mirrored knobs to mix with the original old nubby wooden knobs. The leather wing back chair is not only comfy, but also repurposed...found at an estate sale...as soon as I saw it, I knew it was the "right" chair...masqueline, but whimsical at the same time and it added that punch of color I needed. The chair is accompanied by a side tabe that, yep you guessed, we painted and repurposed! :)  The pillow on the chair is a Tommy Hilfiger from Home Goods. The crib was easy...we had it with the other boys...a vintage inspired metal crib that is safe and again whimsical. The bedding is Pottery Barn...you just can't go wrong with PB! ;) The changing table is one of my favorites...I think because it is forwared facing...AND it has many purposes~we have had this changing table for overy 10yrs...it was our 1st sons and has been used everyday every since!~The top comes off and it becomes a terrific bookshelf...so it is not only functional as a changing table, but as a piece of functional furniture from years past and years to come! The rug is also from Home Goods and was used in the room before it was a nursery, but again because it is so versitile it is also multi purpose!...and that is our mission at Gracie's Cottage in a nutshell...to repupose and upcycle!

Advice

Have fun, don't limit yourself and don't be scared to try anything that crosses your fancy...make it a reflection of you and your baby to come. Don't make it look like it came out of a box!
