Mr. Max’s Mr. Happy 1st Birthday Party!

Description

I wanted to do a 1st birthday party without getting too stuck in a theme. Everyone comments on how Happy my son is all the time so I decided to do a Mr. Happy character theme by Roger Hargreaves. It turned out perfectly! My son even had a Mr. Happy onesie to wear!

Design Inspiration

For as long as I can remember people have always commented on how HAPPY my son is so a Mr. Happy Birthday Theme was most appropriate!

Decorating Style

I didn't want to be tied down to a specific theme for napkins, plates, cups, decor so I was I used a lot of the party colors which were: red, aqua and yellow. Since Mr. Happy was the inspiration he could be found in subtle spots like the cupcake decorations, my sons shirt, the candy bar sign and the party favors which included: tattoos and stickers. I wanted the party to be simple and fun which is why we mostly decorated with crepe paper, balloons, and DIY flags.

Project Details

My favorite part of the decorations were the DYI paper flags! They turned out so cute and the best part was I used craft paper that I had on hand. SO easy and adds the perfect party touch.

I created the invites on photo shop and had them professionally printed on double sided 5x7 paper.

I also made the birthday banner and cupcake toppers. Really easy to do! Just used photo shop and printed them out on card stock on my home printer. I love that I was able to personalize everything.

Another thing I loved that we did were the yellow spray painted photo frames from the dollar store. We filled each frame with 1 photo from each month leading to his first birthday. I did newborn to 11 month. It was a big hit and conversation piece at the party.

Since I am all about budget and doing things myself, We were able to do food and decorations all under $150! And that includes everything for a planned 40 guests.

Favorite Items

My favorite party items were:

The easy DIY craft paper flag banners.

The photo gallery of his first year.

The Candy Bar with only red, blue and yellow candies!

Advice

Dont be afraid to do things yourself! I made everything from the cupcakes, to the personalized decorations! I love the challenge and love the outcome!

It's good that you didn't let yourself get tied down to a certain theme. It certainly allows you to move and do the preparations more freely. Sometimes themes do limit us a lot.

My favorite's got to be the yellow-painted frames, too. They are just attractive and bright. Nothing really beats the idea of framing pictures for each month leading to your baby's first year.
