Monkey See, Monkey Do

Description

Did you know that the sock monkey not only is brown and fuzzy and has bright red lips but is nearly 100 years old? I’m sure that little one-year old Maxwell from Eagle Mountain, Utah knows a thing or two about the sock monkey since his entire nursery was designed around these little guys! Using the fabric from a hand-made quilt as inspiration Max’s mom, Lyndsey was able to create an adorable nursery filled with the sock monkey motif. Here’s all the details on Max’s “Monkey See, Monkey Do” Nursery…

Design Inspiration

For me, it was so hard to pick a theme for a baby boys’ room! We aren’t into character or sports rooms, and I wanted it to be really creative. Thankfully, my mom made me my son a sock monkey quilt and I fell in love with the theme instantly! I love the vintage flair and all of the cute new designs coming out featuring sock monkeys. The fabric, paper, and crafts are SO adorable. I also love the brown, white/cream, and red color scheme.

Decorating Style

I go nuts for a theme. I loved the challenge of finding everything sock monkey-I’m still buying things to add to the nursery. My style is contemporary and I LOVE color.

Project Details

I featured my nursery on my blog, if you want to take a peek. I chose a light blue for the color of the walls. We chose a dark, espresso colored modern crib and dresser. My mom painted the walls with adorable jungle leaves, and I recently added wall decor sock monkeys that “hang” from the trees. Basically, the room is all things sock monkey. I just got creative adding the touches everywhere, from a night light to a sock monkey clock. We also found a jungle wall lamp from Ikea that matches the ones my mom painted. Over my son’s crib we added a jungle leaf canopy and on the wall, four cool sock monkey frames, with pictures of our family in them. A lot of things were from etsy and boutiques (you can do a search online to find the types of things we bought). I found Mr. Magorium sock monkeys at Target, a red and white striped hamper at Pottery Barn kids, and a red and white striped rug to match at Ikea. My mom made the sheets out of the new adorable sock monkey fabric that you can find at quilt stores. We bought a red bumper at Babies R Us and tied sock monkeys on the ties on the outside of the crib. My gramma gave me an old kids rocking chair and painted it red that looks adorable with sock monkeys sitting in them. My mom also made a sock monkey rocking chair pad to go on our chair in the nursery. We just bought foam at a craft store and covered it with sock monkey fabric.

Favorite Items

I LOVE the “Monkey See, Monkey Do” wall plaque above his dresser! There are many cute things out there with this saying on it. I also love my sock monkey quilt.

Advice

People that have seen my room are thrilled to see a cute boy’s theme. I’d love to share it with other mod moms! (and even traditional, that’s what I like about the sock monkey theme, it is vintage!) I am happy to take more pictures for you, different angles, whatever you need. I’d love to answer any questions…I’m sure there are things I am forgetting!

I linked to this post on my blog so more people could see what a beautiful room my grandbaby has! I’m just a bit sad though that you didn’t show the cutest thing in the room – and that would be Baby Max himself! Thanks for featuring his little lair – it is adorable! xo, Grandma Nan
