Modern “Thomas the Tank Engine” Train Party

Description

A fun train themed party with a modern twist of red, blue and aqua. While our inspiration was Thomas the Tank Engine, there were no cartoon characters actually used. The party took place in our backyard and the real excitement came when a trackless train gave rides around the neighborhood!

Design Inspiration

Once we created the logo inspired by Thomas and Friends, we ran with it. The logo was used throughout the entire party from cupcake toppers to centerpieces, welcome signs, banners, etc. Even the favor bags had the logo that said "Thanks for riding Austin's party train!"

Decorating Style

I prefer clean lines. I like to use two to three colors to set a contemporary tone and theme for any party design.

Project Details

All the design ideas and paper good were provided by Kelly of WHhostess. She was awesome. I especially love the paper bunting she created above the dessert bar. I couldn't have done any of this without her.

Etsy shop Two Sugar Babies added a lot of detail and drama to my dessert bar with their amazing fondant cupcake toppers and 3D train!

Blumebox boxes where used as centerpieces, my favorite polka dot ribbon came from Nashville Wraps, and candy was purchased from Sweet Factory.

Favorite Items

It's a toss up. The logo was perfect, loved the way the dessert bar came together but I also loved the 3ft tall balloons! There aren't that many pictures of them but they were a terrific touch for the cocktail rounds I rented. Oh and I thought the carrot, snow peas and hummus cups I served was clever!

Advice

Soak in as much inspiration as you can from all the wonderful party blogs. These ladies know what they are talking about. The inspiration was endless and I wish I could have incorporated so many other great ideas I found on the web. However, part of me was afraid that the other preschool parents would think I was nuts! :)

Such a smart 1st birthday party! I can't imagine the other first birthday parents thought you were nuts - just green with envy and probably just a bit panicky on what on earth they can do to have such a cool party!

Lovely party details. The party's theme and colors, and its overall look, were simple and not over-the-top. Everything looks clean and well-executed. Blue and red seem a nice color for both boys and girls. And the trackless train ride was a great idea. Kids are thrilled by those things. I'm sure all your little guests had a blast!

Your backyard is perfect for parties! I see the Hollywood sign and all the green surroundings, and I'm so jealous! :) Anyway, the red/blue/white motif couldn't be any more perfect for a little boy. These little guys sure love Thomas the Engine, don't they?
