Modern on A Budget

Description

I knew from the beginning that our daughters room wasn't going to have one specific 'theme'.  We were also working on a pretty tight budget.  We bought our home a year ago and have been focusing on many other home improvements.  This room sat pretty much empty until a few months ago.  When we moved in we installed brand new carpeting but that was about it. Our first thing to tackle were the walls, the top half was covered with horrible wallpaper from the 80's and unfortunately the previous homeowners didn't prime the walls before gluing the wallpaper so if we took it down we would have had to hire a professorial to re-texture the walls which equaled lots of $$$.  So...we researched painting over it  (something I never thought I'd resort to) and it ended up turning out great.  We also took down the closet doors and painting all the dark oak trim a nice bright crisp white.

Design Inspiration

After the walls were painted I started researching bedding.  I didn't like any 'set's in stores so I decided to mix and match my own with fabrics found online...but I don't sew nor did I really have the desire to learn (more on that later).  Next came the furniture.  I started browsing craigslist for a long dresser that could double as a changing table. I ended up stumbling upon a free dresser that I could refinish.  It's now probably my favorite thing in the room.  After deciding to paint the dresser hot pink the rest slowly fell into place.

Decorating Style

Modern, Eclectic, &  Budget friendly...I knew I could have fun with the colors in this room since I tend to play it safe with color in the rest of our home.

I think the dresser changing table is just terrific, so great that you found it, and I think it's the centerpiece for all the inspiration in your new little girl's room. Brava!
