Mia’s First Birthday Party

Description

Since Mia is turning 1 she didn't request anything specific for her first birthday party, but we wanted it to reflect her personality so we kept it bright and colorful. We stuck to a few colors (blue, pink, purple, and some gold) but other than that it was sort of a free for all! I made a lot of the decorations myself and some of the food (CAKE POP FAIL!)

It was brunch time and we wanted the food to be baby friendly, so we served mini-waffles, cut up fruit, mini cream cheese sandwiches, and mini-desserts (plus the birthday cake)

In the end, Mia had a great morning surrounded by her loving family!

Design Inspiration

I was browsing Papermash and came across this photo of bright honeycomb balls and looooved the colors together! Mia is such a bright spot wherever she goes and I felt like it was the perfect starting point for her party.

Decorating Style

For kids parties, I definitely love a pop of color. Either one dominant one, or lots all over! I also really like to make things myself, both for the handmade/loving quality I feel it adds and to save money.

Project Details

I had a lot of supplies already, from previous parties, crafts etc.

Any craft supplies I needed, I got from Michael's and I got some party decor from Papermash and Shop Sweet Lulu. I got the gorgeous gold foil 1 balloon from Confetti and Sparkle.

You can check out my blog for the DIY projects, most of which involved cheap supplies like paper.

I made: glitter number cups, the pom-pom garlands, a happy birthday banner, fringed crepe garlands for front of table, glitter cake toppers, shape garlands, birthday chalkboard, her birthday crown, a ribbon garland for her highchair, cake pop centerpieces, and that confetti background behind the dessert table.

Favorite Items

I love her felt birthday crown because it was my first sewing project and now it's really meaningful! I also really loved the gold foil balloon and it might still be floating somewhere in our apartment because I refuse to throw it out...

Advice

Gather, gather, gather! I keep projects and decor from previous parties and I'm almost always able to use them in the next one! (The cake toppers got tossed because I didn't really feel like the cake came totally off of the sticks, but it was really easy to make)

I also got my inspiration and ideas started pretty early so whenever there was a sale or I got a great coupon, I could jump on the opportunity.

And most of all, have fun! The point isn't the decor, it's to celebrate someone or something you love so at the end of the day, relax and enjoy!
