Madison’s Presidential First Birthday Party

Madison For President.  We got tons of leftover 4th of July decorations and even made our own to put together this presidential first birthday party.

Design Inspiration

We knew that there are only a few birthdays in a kid's life where you can have complete say over the theme, so we decided to have fun with this one!  We partially named our daughter after the president, James Madison, since my wife is a history teacher and I'm originally from Virginia, so we thought it would be fun to go with a presidential theme.  Plus, her birthday is in September and we'd be able to get plenty of leftover 4th of July decorations on sale earlier in the summer!

Project Details

A lot of the items were purchased at Target, the Party Store, and Michael's after the 4th of July holiday.  We did do a lot of DIY too, such as the pie toppers, the voting/photo booth, the table decorations, and the pillows on the back porch, and the mason jars.  We also had a real presidential nomination yard sign made up at Staples and had our local bakery make a cake exactly like it.  I included a lot of personalized details, such as the Obama endorsement sticker and adding her photo to the poster of Presidents.  We had the invitation made on Etsy.  Luckily, it was a beautiful summer day and Madison clearly had enough supporters to bring her the 2048 election win!

Favorite Items

My favorite items were by far the dessert table with the paper lantern/fan display on the back wall, the voting/photo booth, and the mason jar drinking glasses.
