This neutral nursery is warm and cozy. Orange and blue are great complimentary colors and the polka dots and animal accents give the room whimsy and charm.
This is the smallest room in my house and it doesn't get a lot of light. I wanted to brighten up the room with the light colored walls, but keep a rich cozy color on the feature wall. I loved the polka dots on the bedding and carried them into the rug and as accents on the wall. The zoo animals just sort of fell into place without being overly cutesy.
The best thing I can say is I like what I like. I guess it's a little modern, a little bit contemporary and traditional as well. I like mixing colors and patterns too.
This is definitely a chic room on the cheap! For starters I purchased the Summer Infant crib, changing table and the dresser from Walmart.com as a set for $220! (I paid more than that on my first son's Dwell Studio bedding) The bedding and all the matching room decor - lamp, circle wall decals, changing table cover, diaper stacker and flag pennant are all Summer Infant as well which I purchased from Home Goods. (all for less than $120) The rug is from Overstock.com and the cardboard boxes and cute elephant clock were steals from Gilt.com.
This room doesn't have a closet, so I purchased the wardrobe and small dresser from Ikea. I love how you can custom their products to fit your space and needs.
I love the stuffed lion, giraffe, and elephant. I am a denim designer so I'll buy anything in denim. I also decided after I purchased them I would add an animal theme to the room. I also love the simplicity of the bedding. It is perfect for a gender neutral room!
Just take your time and browse discount stores, flash sale sites and search the internet for reviews. I saved a ton on the rug - which sells for $179 at Target.com but at Overstock.com it sells for $108. I bought a coupon for Overstock from a flash sale site and waited for the rug to go on sale. I ended up getting it for $75! What a steal! ;)
