Landon’s Toddler Room

Description

This room is a compilation of everything our son loves - trains, trucks, planes, boats, and cars!

Design Inspiration

The IKEA map.  My husband and I both love maps, and decided to jumpstart the room with a travel theme, and then add in all the transportation elements that our son loves.

Decorating Style

Eclectic, although this room is the "preppiest" in our house...

Project Details

IKEA wall map, Stanley Young America MyHaven daybed, Stanley dresser from another collection, PBK madras bedding and gingham curtains, Land of Nod rug and book ledges, Serena & Lily pouf and storage pieces, Oopsy Daisy artwork by Aaron Christopher, local artists for boat and truck paintings, local boutique for clothes tree.

Favorite Items

The map - it adds so much color and interest, and I can see using it in other rooms in our house...playroom, study room, bonus room.

Advice

I gave up all my ideas of what I would want in the room, and just bought things that I knew my son would love.  I also did a mix of high and low, with some splurges (original artwork and clothes tree), solid, mid-range furniture, and then inexpensive bedding, rug, and curtains.  That way our son can be a boy and I won't have to worry about expensive or dry-clean fabrics.  Plus, the inexpensive items can easily be changed out for a different look as Landon's tastes evolve - the furniture is all fairly classic.

I like that this room is masculine and simple. Toddlers have such creative minds, and it's really nice that you didn't clutter the room with your own creative decorating ideas so it still has plenty of room to leave his very own marks.

Love the big world map. I think that a daybed is also a great choice for a toddler room.
