Kensington’s Cozy Retreat Nursery

Description

I love interior design, DIY projects and all things baby!  However, I found myself getting frustrated with the "boxed" nursery choices that are out there, and I wanted a room that exuded calmness.  My daughter's nursery was a budget-friendly challenge that I was excited to take on.  I knew I didn't want to spend a fortune, but I wanted it to look high-end.  I splurged on the dresser at $600, bedding and curtains totaling $400, but everything else is either a DIY project, bargain find or re-purposed item.

Design Inspiration

My entire inspiration for this room was based on three silver owl hooks that I found at World Market long before I even knew I was pregnant. I knew I wanted to incorporate owls without it being "owl-themed" and it just evolved to what it was.  I also knew I wanted to incorporate the alphabet since it it a baby's room but I didn't want it to look juvenile.

Decorating Style

I would say my style leans toward Modern Traditionalism.  I love the traditional style but in modern colors and patterns.

Favorite Items

My favorite item is the owl mobile.  I spent several days putting this together and it was well worth it!  Just watching my daughter gaze up at the owls with amazement brightens my day!
