Hazel’s Yellow and Gray Gender Neutral Nursery

Description

We did not find out what we were expecting while we were pregnant so we wanted to create a gender neutral room that could easily adapt to a boys or girls room. One of our goals was to create a calm and comforting room, I really feel that the colour of gray we went with and the white furniture really gives that feel when your in the room. We kept all the furniture really simple, we wanted items that would transition well into a toddler room. We kept that in mind when picking items out, such as dresser height, I wanted the baby to be able to get items from their own dresser and not be to tall for them.

Design Inspiration

We picked out our bedding first, we went with the gender neutral Taylor gray elephant series from Pottery Barn Kids. From there the grays and elephants were our inspiration, with a splash of yellow here and there.

Decorating Style

Very simple and practical. I like pieces that flow well and have meaning to them. Our home has a very comfortable feel to it, just enough decor elements to give it appeal but not to much that you feel like your in a store.

Favorite Items

I have two favorite items with this room. The first is the rocking chair. I originally wanted a more modern padded rocking chair and then thought it might be fun to redo one ourselves. We picked up the chair off of craigslist and my husband painted it white for me and then we added the seat cover from Baby Bedding.com. They have so many great designs but we kept it neutral as we didn't know what we were having and this way we can use it again.

The second is the teddy bear print that is hanging above the change table. This was originally in my nursery and then toddler room when I was younger. I had no idea that my mom had kept it until she gifted it to me at one of my showers. She waited until we had picked room colors and then had it re framed and matted to match the room. It was a great surprise and I hope its one I can pass on to Hazel.

Advice

Take your time, there is no need to rush when creating a nursery. The baby will not spend much time in it for the first few months so you will have lots of time to work on it and make changes.
