Hallie’s Bright & Modern Nursery

Description

We decided to keep the gender of our first bundle of joy a surprise, so the main goal of designing the nursery space was to keep it "gender neutral."  Besides that, we really wanted a space that was bright, fun and not "babyish," so our child could grow into it as the years passed.

Design Inspiration

We knew we wanted gray walls, to keep things neutral, but the design inspiration really came in the form of the Ikea Lusy Blom Rug.  We used the colors and eclectic shapes in the rug as inspiration for the rest of the space.

Decorating Style

Modern mixed with some traditional

Favorite Items

My favorite piece in the nursery is definitely the crib.  My husband, Cory, is an amazing craftsman and carpenter and made the crib by hand.  We wanted a crib that had modern, clean lines and was gender neutral.  I love the final design he came up with.  The crib is made out of poplar and mdf and is painted with Sherwin Williams "Alabaster" high gloss low-voc paint.

Advice

Find a fun piece and build from there.  Keep an open mind...the project will most likely evolve as you go and being flexible will make the process much more enjoyable!
